Aragón sets the schedule of public holidays for 2027

The Government of Aragon has approved Decree 163/2026, of September 9, which establishes the paid, non-recoverable, and non-working holidays for the year 2027 throughout the Autonomous Community. The regulation is published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 180, of September 16, 2026, in section III of Other Provisions and Agreements, with official reference BOA20260916015.

The decree, promoted by the Department of Economy, Competitiveness, and Employment, establishes twelve holidays of regional scope, to which each municipality may add up to two local holidays. The measure directly affects workers, companies, and administrations, both in terms of paid rest and the calculation of administrative deadlines.

Regulatory Framework

The regulation is based on article 37.2 of the consolidated text of the Workers’ Statute Law, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, in relation to article 45 of Royal Decree 2001/1983. Within the annual limit of fourteen holidays, two of which shall be local, the autonomous communities may designate their own holidays based on tradition.

Within this framework, article 3.4 of the Statute of Autonomy of Aragon and Law 1/1984 of the Cortes of Aragon establish April 23, the feast of Saint George, as the Day of Aragon, a holiday throughout the territory. The decree was submitted for a hearing of trade union and business organizations within the Labor Relations Council of Aragon on July 7, 2026, and deliberated by the Government of Aragon on September 9.

The Twelve Holidays of 2027

The regional calendar for 2027 consists of the following paid and non-recoverable holidays:

January 1, Friday, New Year’s Day.
January 6, Wednesday, Epiphany of the Lord.
March 25, Maundy Thursday.
March 26, Good Friday.
April 23, Friday, Saint George, Day of Aragon.
May 1, Saturday, Labor Day.
August 16, Monday, replacing Sunday the 15th, Assumption of the Virgin.
October 12, Tuesday, National Day of Spain.
November 1, Monday, All Saints’ Day.
December 6, Monday, Constitution Day of Spain.
December 8, Wednesday, Immaculate Conception.
December 25, Saturday, Nativity of the Lord.

As the Assumption of the Virgin coincides with a Sunday, the rest day has been moved to Monday, August 16, in accordance with the power to transfer it to the immediately following Monday.

Non-working Days and Local Holidays

For the purpose of calculating deadlines, Article 30.7 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure, declares the listed holidays and those determined as local by the competent labor authority as non-working days. Each municipality may propose up to two local holidays via a certificate of the Plenary Agreement, which must be submitted to the corresponding Provincial Sub-directorate of Labor before October 15, 2026.

The Provincial Sub-directorates of Labor will forward the proposals to the General Directorate of Labor, which will order their publication in the Official Gazette of Aragon. The decree, signed by the president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón Navarro, and the counselor of Economy, Competitiveness, and Employment, Eva Valle Maestro, will take effect from the day following its publication.

The publication of the calendar months in advance allows companies and administrations to plan staffing, shifts, and deadlines, and city councils to set their local holidays within the established timeframe, guaranteeing legal certainty for workers and employers throughout the Community.
