576 vacancies approved for promotion of National Police officers

The Ministry of the Interior approved the vacancies for the 2026 competitive promotion process-2027 Promotion for senior officers of Arms and Services of the National Police of Peru (PNP). The measure was formalized in Ministerial Resolution No. 1328-2026-IN, signed in Lima on September 5, 2026, and published in the Legal Norms section of the official newspaper El Peruano on Monday, September 7, 2026.

The resolution, which affects hundreds of active-duty personnel, sets the available slots by rank and specialty for next year’s promotion process. In total, 576 vacancies are enabled, of which 414 correspond to Arms officers and 162 to Services officers.

Vacancies for Arms officers

Article 1 of the regulation approves the vacancies for senior Arms officers, distributed across three ranks:

• To Colonel: 110 vacancies.
• To Commander: 150 vacancies.
• To Major: 154 vacancies.

Vacancies for Services officers

Article 2 approves the vacancies for senior Services officers, broken down by rank and profession. 16 slots are offered for Colonel, including:

• Medicine: 5 vacancies.
• Law: 3 vacancies.
• Biology: 2 vacancies.
• Pharmaceutical Chemistry: 2 vacancies.
• Social Work, Nursing, Obstetrics, and Dentistry: 1 vacancy each.

56 slots are enabled for Commander, with greater weight in Medicine (19), Law (7), Nursing (6), and Accounting (4). 90 slots are offered for Major, led by Psychology (20), Medicine (19), Nursing (11), Dentistry (11), and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (8).

Regulatory framework of the process

The approval is based on Legislative Decree No. 1267, Law of the National Police of Peru, and its Regulation approved by Supreme Decree No. 012-2025-IN, as well as Law No. 31873, which regulates the promotion processes of police personnel. It is also supported by Directive No. 006-2026-CG-PNP/DIRREHUM-DIVPNIBPP, which establishes the guidelines for the execution of the 2026 competitive promotion process-2027 Promotion.

The vacancy proposal was formulated by the Division of Promotion and Appointment, Incentives, Benefits, and Payroll Production of the PNP Human Resources Directorate, through Report No. 64-2026-DIRREHUM PNP/DIVPNIBPP-SECPROFI, and was reviewed by the General Command, the Executive Secretariat, the Legal Advisory Directorate, and the General Office of Legal Advisory.

Impact of the process

The declaration of vacancies opens the door to the promotion competition, which will be carried out according to the schedule of activities provided for in the sectoral directive. For officers on active duty, promotion to the immediate superior rank is conferred in strict observance of the principles, requirements, specialties, and procedures established by law, and the resolutions are published in the Integrated Police Career Management System and in the official gazette El Peruano.

The measure is key for the renewal of the command staff of the National Police of Peru, as it defines in advance the positions to be filled in the next promotion and provides certainty to the hundreds of personnel aspiring to be promoted in their respective specialties.
