Alma Energía enters the MEM with its BESS Brown battery park

The Secretariat of Energy of the Ministry of Economy authorized the entry of ALMA ENERGÍA S.A. into the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM) as a Storage Generating Agent for its BESS BROWN Storage Park, of 22 MW, located in the Partido of Almirante Brown, province of Buenos Aires. The measure was established by Resolution 244/2026 (RESOL-2026-244-APN-SE#MEC), signed on September 16, 2026, by Secretary María Carmen Tettamanti and published in the Official Gazette of the Argentine Republic on September 17, 2026. The park will be linked to the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) at 13.2 kV buses of the SE.T. Brown, under the jurisdiction of EDESUR S.A.

The authorization concludes a process initiated on December 11, 2025, when the company submitted Note IF-2025-138705873-APN-DGDA#MEC within File No. EX-2025-138605193-APN-DGDA#MEC, processed jointly with seven other files. The request was published in Official Gazette No. 35,987 on September 8, 2026, without any objections being received, and the park’s Environmental Impact Study was approved by Resolution No. 405 of August 13, 2026, from the Undersecretariat of Environmental Control and Oversight of the Ministry of Environment of the province of Buenos Aires.

CAMMESA’s technical endorsement

The Compañía Administradora del Mercado Mayorista Eléctrico Sociedad Anónima (CAMMESA) reported via Note B-186010-1 on July 28, 2026, that ALMA ENERGÍA S.A. complies, for the BESS BROWN Storage Park, with the requirements of points 5.1 and 5.2 of Annex 17 of the “Procedures for Operation Programming, Load Dispatch and Price Calculation in the Wholesale Electricity Market,” approved by Resolution No. 61 of April 29, 1992, of the former Secretariat of Electric Energy.

The agency also certified that the company submitted the required information for the System’s Seasonal Database (Chapter 2 and Annexes 1 and 2) and committed to delivering the documentation for Chapter 1 and Annex 24 regarding the SCOM, SMEC, and SOTR communication systems. The National Directorate of Regulation and Development of the Electricity Sector and the permanent legal service of the Ministry of Economy took prior intervention.

What the resolution establishes

• Article 1: authorizes entry into the MEM as a Storage Generating Agent for the 22 MW plant in Almirante Brown, connected to the 13.2 kV buses of the SE.T. Brown.
• Article 2: instructs CAMMESA to charge ALMA ENERGÍA S.A. for the overcosts incurred by other MEM agents and the penalties from the Transport Technical Function (FTT) providers for any unavailability resulting from the entry.
• Article 3: notifies the company, CAMMESA, EDESUR S.A., and the National Gas and Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENReGE).
• Article 4: the measure enters into force on the day of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The regulation was issued in exercise of the powers under Articles 35 and 36 of Law No. 24,065 and Section IX of Annex II of Decree No. 50 of December 19, 2019, framed within Laws Nos. 15,336 and 24,065.

A series of battery projects

The authorization of BESS BROWN adds to other similar resolutions from September. On September 16, 2026, the entry of SULLAIR ARGENTINA S.A. was enabled for its BESS CHINGOLO SULL Storage Plant, 24 MW, in the Quilmes District, also within the jurisdiction of EDESUR S.A. Additionally, on August 5, 2026, the application from ALMA ENERGÍA S.A. was published for its BESS GLEW Storage Park, 22 MW, in the same Almirante Brown district, linked to the SE.T. Glew.

The entry of these parks expands the SADI supply with storage capacity in the southern zone of the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, where the projects submitted to the Secretariat of Energy are concentrated.
