The Xunta rectifies the local festivals of Cangas for the year 2027

The Xunta de Galicia has rectified the local holidays of the Cangas Council for the year 2027: it removes March 19 (Friday of Sorrows) and establishes July 16 (Friday of Carmen) and August 30 (Monday of Christ) as holidays. The correction of errors is signed by the Territorial Department of Pontevedra, dependent on the Ministry of Employment, Trade and Emigration, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) number 210, of October 30, 2026, with the official reference 2026075839. The change affects workers, companies, and the municipal administration of the Cangas council.

The labor calendar of the province of Pontevedra for 2027 was approved in BOPPO number 192, of October 6, 2026 (reference 2026071521), under article 37.2 of Legislative Royal Decree 2/2015, of October 23, and Decree 68, of June 15, 2026, which establishes the labor calendar of the Autonomous Community for that year. In that framework, the council of Cangas appeared with two local holidays: “March 19, Friday of Sorrows” and “August 30, Monday of Christ”.

According to the agreement now published, the Cangas Council had presented a certification of the plenary session of July 31, 2026, in which it proposed as local holidays July 16, 2027 (Friday of Carmen) and August 30, 2027 (Monday of Christ). “Due to an error, the resolution was sent establishing March 19, Friday of Sorrows, as a holiday, coinciding with the regional holiday of San Xosé,” the territorial department acknowledges.

The rectification and its legal basis

The Territorial Department of Pontevedra supports the decision in article 109.2 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the common administrative procedure (BOE number 236, of October 2, 2015), which allows administrations to rectify at any time, ex officio or at the request of the interested parties, material, factual, or arithmetic errors in their acts. The correction modifies the resolution of the same department dated October 1, 2026.

The AGREEMENT has two points:

• First: to rectify the material error in the 2027 labor calendar regarding the local holidays of Cangas, so that where it says “Cangas March 19 (Friday of Sorrows)” it should say “Cangas July 16 (Friday of Carmen)”.
• Second: to order the publication of the correction in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra.

The document is signed in Vigo by the territorial director of Pontevedra on the date of the electronic signature, and carries the secure verification code FHVHT2ZBMLZOBJLW.

The holidays that finally remain in 2027

With the rectification, the local calendar of Cangas for next year is as follows:

• July 16, 2027, Friday: Friday of Carme. It enters as a local holiday and replaces March 19.
• August 30, 2027, Monday: Monday of Cristo. It remains unchanged with respect to the original publication.
• March 19, 2027, Friday: ceases to be a local holiday, although it remains a holiday throughout Galicia for San Xosé, within the twelve general working holidays established by Decree 68.

The rectification prevents Cangas from having a local holiday coinciding with a date already declared non-working throughout the autonomous territory, which in practice reduced its count of own non-working days to only one.

Labor and administrative effects

The local holidays included in the calendar are paid and non-recoverable, in accordance with article 37.2 of the Workers’ Statute and article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28. Furthermore, the provincial calendar establishes that both autonomous and local holidays are considered non-working days for the calculation of administrative deadlines, according to article 30.7 of Law 39/2015.

On the other hand, article 34.6 of the Workers’ Statute obliges companies to display the labor calendar in a visible place at the workplace for the knowledge and consultation of the staff. Failure to comply with this obligation constitutes a labor infringement typified in article 6.1 of Legislative Royal Decree 5/2000, of August 4, on infractions and sanctions in the social order.

The correction has a direct effect on the planning of shifts, vacations, and activity closures in the municipality, as well as on municipal administrative procedures, where July 16, 2027, will be a non-working day and March 19 cannot be counted as a local holiday. Companies and workers in Cangas must now update the displayed calendar with the rectified dates, as these are the ones officially listed in the provincial bulletin.
