The Xunta raises the personal assistance supplement to 2,233 euros.

Por FactBox Admin

The Xunta de Galicia updates the amounts of the additional supplement to the economic benefit for personal assistance of the System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency (SAAD), which will reach 2,233 euros per month and up to 2,485 euros in cases of special dedication. The measure was approved by Order of 6 August 2026 of the Department of Social Policy and Equality, published in the Official Journal of Galicia (DOG) on Friday 14 August, and will have financial effects from 1 May 2025.

The regulation amends the Order of 2 January 2012, which implements Decree 15/2010, of 4 February, regulating the recognition of the situation of dependency and the right to benefits of the system. According to the text, the costs associated with this benefit have increased substantially in recent years due to the rise in wage costs, which justifies the update of the additional protection financed by the autonomous community from its own budgets.

What is modified

Article 45 of the order regulates the additional protection level for persons in a situation of profound dependency and severe dependency. The additional supplement is calculated as the difference between the amount that would correspond to the beneficiary according to the SAAD amounts and the maximum amount in Annex V, which acts as a ceiling for this additional level.

Annex V, with the maximum amounts of the payments, is drafted with the following monthly amounts for the personal assistance payment:

  • Grade III: 747.25 euros.
  • Grade II: 445.30 euros.
  • Grade I: 313.50 euros.

Additional supplement and special dedication

For the personal assistance payment, the additional supplement of the Autonomous Community is raised to 2,233 euros per month in Grades III and II. In cases of special dedication, the amount is increased to 2,485 euros per month.

The increase applies when it is so recognised in the Individual Care Programme (PIA) and when the provision of at least 10% of the hourly intensity in special dedication periods is proven, such as:

  • vacations and weekends;
  • public holidays;
  • night periods between 22.00 and 7.00 hours;
  • temporary stays outside the autonomous community for a maximum of two months.

Ex officio application

The update with the increase in the new amounts will be carried out ex officio in the territorial departments of the Department of Social Policy and Equality, in order to expedite the effectiveness of the measure. The order, signed by the Minister for Social Policy and Equality, Fabiola García Martínez, will enter into force the day after its publication in the DOG and will have financial effects from 1 May 2025.

The regulation is framed within the additional level of protection that, in accordance with Article 7 of Law 39/2006, of 14 December, on the promotion of personal autonomy and care for people in situations of dependency, may be established by each autonomous community, and which in Galicia is developed under the Social Services System regulated in Law 13/2008, of 3 December.

Relevance

The update benefits people in situations of dependency who receive personal assistance and their families, in a context of rising wage costs for care staff. By being applied with retroactive effect from May 2025, the increase also implies the regularisation of the amounts received in this period, which reinforces the purchasing power of beneficiaries and the recognition of care work.
