The Xunta opens grants for archaeological interventions on private property

The Department of Culture, Language and Youth of the Xunta de Galicia published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG no. 158, of August 21, 2026) the Order of July 20, 2026, establishing the regulatory bases and calling for the 2026 grants intended for collaboration in the financing of archaeological interventions, with procedure code CT104B. The call, identified in the National Grants Database under number 925689, is aimed at private promoters of works affecting cataloged or inventoried assets.

The order complies with the mandate contained in article 96.7 of Law 5/2016, of May 4, on the Cultural Heritage of Galicia, which provides that the department shall collaborate, through annual grants, in financing the cost of executing the authorized archaeological project when the promoting person is a private individual, provided that this collaboration does not exceed half of its amount. The processing will also adhere to Law 9/2007, of June 13, on Grants of Galicia, and Decree 199/1997, of July 10, which regulates archaeological activity in the community.

Credit and grant amounts

A total credit of 50,000.00 euros is allocated for this call, distributed across two budgetary applications:

• 13.04.433A.770.0: 25,000.00 €.
• 13.04.433A.781.2: 25,000.00 €.

Grants are received as a single payment per beneficiary and work, according to the documentation submitted:

• 50% of the costs of the authorized project, with a limit of 20,000 €, if the delivery of technical reports and the material deposit act is proven.
• 30%, with a limit of 12,000 €, if the action had already been subsidized in previous calls by 20% for having submitted the evaluative report.
• 20%, with a limit of 8,000 €, if only the evaluative reports are submitted.

Beneficiaries and requirements

Entrepreneurs (natural or legal persons) and non-profit natural and legal persons who promote archaeological interventions on privately owned real estate may be beneficiaries, provided they meet the following requirements:

• That the actions are authorized from the year 2021 onwards and completed by the date of publication of the order.
• That the cost justifications are invoiced and paid between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
• That the delivery of evaluative reports, technical reports, and the material deposit act is proven.

Actions promoted by public administrations or concessionaires, those affecting public assets, and those derived from protective measures or sanctioning proceedings are excluded.

Deadline and submission

The application period will be one month, which will begin at 9:00 AM on the sixth business day counting from the day following the publication of the order in the DOG and will end at 8:00 PM on the final day. Applications should preferably be submitted electronically through the electronic office of the Xunta de Galicia (https://sede.xunta.gal), with electronic submission being mandatory for legal entities, freelancers, and registered professionals. The order was signed by Elvira María Casal García, technical general secretary of the department, by delegation of signature.

The call represents an opportunity for promoters and owners of listed properties who must undertake archaeological interventions as a prerequisite for their works, by allowing them to recover up to half of the cost of the authorized archaeological project. With this line, the Xunta de Galicia reinforces support for the study and dissemination of archaeological heritage, favoring the conservation of historical complexes and sites within the community.
