The Deputación da Coruña announces the Podcast Award in the Galician Language

The Provincial Council of A Coruña announces the 1st edition of the “Broadcasting in the Galician Language” Podcast Award, with a total prize pool of 20,000 euros divided into four categories of 5,000 euros each. The rules were approved by a Presidential resolution and are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña number 182, dated September 23, 2026, under announcement number 2026/6072. The deadline for submitting applications is 2:00 PM on December 18, 2026.

The call for entries originates from the General Secretariat, Linguistic Normalization Section of the Provincial Council of A Coruña and aims to promote and recognize the creation and production of podcasts in the Galician language, as well as contribute to the promotion, dissemination, and social and media visibility of Galician in the field of sound creation. The rules were signed in A Coruña on September 17, 2026, by the president Valentín González Formoso and the acting general secretary Paula María Vázquez Carrasco.

Four categories and 20,000 euros in prizes

The awards are granted to podcasts that stand out for their use of Galician in four categories:

• The theater of the air: original sound fiction works or those based on existing or adapted works, featuring voices, sound effects, music, and atmospheres.
• The spun word: interviews, conversations, debates, or dialogues between two or more people on any topic.
• The sound catch: informative and creative podcasts that “fish out” a specific subject, a person, a problem, or a social event.
• The voice of our language: podcasts that contribute to the study, dissemination, promotion, and use of the Galician language.

Each category is endowed with 5,000 euros, subject to applicable legal withholdings, and the total amount amounts to 20,000 euros charged to item 0116/3344/481. The prizes may remain vacant or be awarded ex aequo, in which case the amount will be distributed proportionally among the winning individuals or entities, and they cannot be granted posthumously.

Who can apply and how to submit the application

Natural or legal persons who are the authors of the proposed podcast may submit applications; minors must also provide authorization from their legal guardians. Persons with tax residence in a country or territory regulatory qualified as a tax haven are excluded, in accordance with article 13.f) of Law 38/2003, of November 17, general on subsidies.

Each application consists of a podcast of free length and theme, accessible for open listening and using Galician as the vehicular language, and may only be submitted to one of the four categories. The music and sound effects used must be original, royalty-free, or have an authorized license for use. Podcasts containing sexist language or LGBTQ+ phobic, racist, or denigrating comments toward any group are not permitted.

The process is electronic via the Deputación’s SUBTEL platform, therefore requiring a digital certificate and a single contact email address. Along with the application, the following must be submitted:

• A document containing the title, the synopsis, and the link to the nominated podcast, or several links if it is available on multiple platforms.
• A responsible declaration stating that the author holds all rights and that the podcast has not received any award or grant from the Deputación in the previous two years.

Jury, criteria, and decision in 2027

The jury will be chaired by the deputy for Language, who will act with a voice but without a vote, and will be composed of at least three people of recognized prestige in the fields of sound creation, orality, and the Galician language, appointed by the Deputación da Coruña. The secretarial functions are performed by the secretary of the Corporation or the official to whom they delegate, and the appointment will respect the balanced presence of women and men in accordance with Article 70 of Law 7/2023, of November 30. The deliberations are secret and the jury will submit its proposal to the president of the Deputación, the competent body to resolve; the decision will be announced in 2027.

The evaluation distributes a maximum of 110 points:

• 30 points for linguistic quality and richness.
• 20 points for expressiveness, interpretation, and communicative capacity of the participating voice or voices.
• 20 points for dynamizing capacity, repercussion, and quantitative and qualitative social impact.
• 20 points for originality, creativity, and innovation.
• 10 points for the technical quality of the work.
• 10 points for bringing Galician to spaces where it is not yet implemented, with attention to childhood, youth, and generational transmission.

Payment, obligations, and dissemination

For the granting and collection of the prize, it is necessary to present certifications of being up to date with tax obligations and with the Social Security Treasury, the notification of bank account details, and the certification of account ownership. Payment is made after a withholding of 15% for IRPF (Personal Income Tax) or 19% for corporate tax, and the granting resolution will be published in the Boletín Oficial da Provincia and in the National Database of Subsidies (BDNS).

Awarded individuals are required to disclose the receipt of the award in any medium or means of communication, tagging the Deputación da Coruña and Cultura Deputación da Coruña (@depucoruna and @DACCultura) on social networks, and to attend the awards ceremony.

The call opens a specific funding circuit for sound creation in Galician, a field with few dedicated public supports. For independent creators and linguistic normalization collectives, it represents a path of economic recognition and visibility, with explicit attention to the generational transmission of the language among children and youth.
