Zaragoza will phase out its degree in Business Administration and Management.

The Government of Aragon has authorised the extinction of the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management taught by the University of Zaragoza, which will cease to be offered as of the 2026-2027 academic year. The decision, adopted by Agreement of 22 July 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 157, of 14 August 2026, through Order ECU/1196/2026, of 3 August, issued by the Minister of Education, Science and Universities, CARMEN M.ª SUSÍN GABARRE (official reference: BOA20260814023).

The Agreement is based on Article 73 of the Statute of Autonomy of Aragon and on Article 12 of Law 5/2005, of 14 June, on the Organisation of the University System of Aragon, which confers on the regional executive the authorisation of the establishment and suppression of official university education. The procedure is governed by the quality assurance regulation approved by Decree 72/2023, of 17 May, Article 15 of which regulates the extinction of degrees at the request of the responsible university.

A renewed study plan that replaces the previous one

The extinction does not imply the disappearance of the degree, but rather the replacement of its study plan. The degree was established by Agreement of 22 June 2010, with effect from the 2010-2011 academic year (BOA number 137, of 14 July 2010), and was registered in the Register of Universities, Centres and Degrees (RUCT) under code 2502327.

In the context of adaptation to Royal Decree 822/2021, of 28 September, the proposed modifications resulted in a study plan sufficiently different as to require its verification as a new degree, in accordance with Article 32.2 of the regulation. Thus, on 28 January 2026 the Government of Aragon authorised the implementation of the new degree of the same name for the 2026-2027 academic year (BOA number 32, of 17 February 2026), registered in the RUCT under code 1500575.

Guarantees for students

In order to protect the academic rights of those already enrolled in the degree, the extinction of the current study plan will be progressive, in accordance with the measures agreed by the Governing Council of the University of Zaragoza on 28 April 2026 and by its Social Council on 4 May 2026:

• The study plans will be progressively extinguished, on an annual basis, from the academic year following the extinction resolution, with the subjects comprising them no longer being taught.
• Once a year has been extinguished, four examination sittings will be held in the following two academic years; in the second year of extinction, three sittings may be used until the six available sittings are exhausted.
• Those who exhaust the sittings without passing the examinations and wish to continue may do so through the corresponding adaptations to the new degree of the same name.

A procedure with favourable reports

The university’s application received the favorable report from the Agency for Quality and University Prospective of Aragon, issued on June 30, 2026, and the proposal report from the Directorate General of Universities of July 9, 2026, which considered that the request met the requirements of the regional regulation. The Agreement, adopted at the meeting of the Government of Aragon on July 22, 2026, shall take effect from its adoption, be forwarded to the Registry of Universities, Centers and Degrees, and be notified to the requesting university.

With this decision, Aragon closes the renewal cycle of one of the most in-demand degree programs in its university system: the old curriculum is phased out year by year, but the degree continues with a curriculum verified as a new qualification from the 2026-2027 academic year itself. Current students retain guaranteed examination sittings and adaptation routes, while future enrollees will join the renewed program from the outset.
