Zafra puts its peri-urban fire prevention plan out for public consultation.

Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Zafra has initially approved the Peri-urban Wildfire Prevention Plan and has agreed to submit it to public inspection for a period of twenty business days, so that interested parties may submit objections. The announcement is published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Badajoz number 153, of 12 August 2026, in the Local Administration section, by means of Announcement 3195/2026, signed by the mayor, Juan Carlos Fernández Calderón.

The file has been processed by the competent services of the municipality, and the plan has been drafted by the Provincial Council of Badajoz within the framework of the management assignment agreement signed between the two public administrations. It is a peri-urban planning instrument aimed at preventing wildfires in the surroundings of the urban area of Zafra, which reaches this phase of citizen participation in the midst of the summer risk period.

A peri-urban plan drafted by the Provincial Council

The document responds to a model of cooperation between administrations: the Provincial Council of Badajoz drafts the plan and the City Council of Zafra processes the file and submits it to the Plenary, which has given its initial approval to the text. The peri-urban nature of the instrument refers to the contact strip between the urban area and forest zones, an area especially sensitive to the spread of fires.

With this agreement, the plan is placed before the public before the file continues its processing, so that the final result may incorporate the contributions made during the consultation period.

Twenty business days to submit objections

The plenary agreement calls for the public information procedure for those who may be considered interested parties in the file. The conditions of the procedure are as follows:

  • Deadline: twenty business days to appear and submit objections, suggestions or claims.
  • Participation: open to any person or entity that considers itself interested in the file.
  • Purpose: to provide observations to the Peri-urban Wildfire Prevention Plan before its processing is completed.

Consulting the document on the electronic office

The plan will be available to interested parties through the online channels of the City Council of Zafra:

  • Electronic office: zafra.sedelectronica.es
  • Transparency portal: zafra.sedelectronica.es/transparency

The publication of the announcement starts the countdown for residents, property owners and entities around Zafra to participate in a matter especially sensitive in the middle of summer: wildfire prevention. Those who consider themselves affected by the peri-urban plan must review the document and submit their objections within the twenty-business-day period, before the file advances in its administrative processing.
