Xunqueira de Ambía approves new water and drainage fees

Por FactBox Admin

The City Council of Xunqueira de Ambía published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ourense on August 25, 2026, the definitive approval of the modification of Article 6 (Tax quotas) of Fiscal Ordinance No. 11, regulating the fee for the distribution of water, gas, electricity, and other public supplies. The measure, which affects all taxpayers in the municipality, sets the new rates for connection to the water network and drains.

The agreement was initially approved by the Plenary of the Council in the ordinary session of June 12, 2026, and submitted for public information for thirty business days via an announcement published in BOP number 119, on June 26, 2026. As no claims were filed within the period, the initial plenary agreement was automatically elevated to definitive, in compliance with Article 70.2 of Law 7/1985, of April 2, regulating the bases of local regime.

New tax quotas

The modification of Article 6 establishes the rates that users requesting connection to municipal water and drain services must pay:

  • Authorization for connection to the general network when it is a joint connection of water and drain (application for activation): €250.00.
  • Water connection carried out by the Council at the request of the interested party up to a maximum of 2 meters of piping: €450.00.
  • For each meter exceeding two: €100.00.
  • Installation of water meter: €80.00, with the purchase of the meter, valves, box, and the excavation being the responsibility of the user.

Processing and appeals

The ordinance regulates the fee for the distribution of water, gas, electricity, and other public supplies, including the rights to connect lines and the installation and use of meters and analogous installations, when such services are provided by the council itself. The full text of the modification was published for general knowledge.

Against the definitive approval agreements, interested parties may file a contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Galicia within two months, counted from the day following the publication of the announcement in the provincial gazette. The document, signed in Xunqueira de Ambía on August 4, 2026, by the mayor, José Luis Gavilanes Losada, bears the registration number R. 1.926.

Impact for residents

The update of the quotas implies an increase in the costs of access to basic supply and sanitation services for any person or company requesting a new connection in the municipality. The entry into force of the new rates directly affects future taxpayers, who must assume both the activation fee and the costs derived from the installation of the meter and piping.
