Xogade 2026/27 opens registration with free insurance and transport

The Department of Presidency, Justice and Sports of the Xunta de Galicia has announced the Xogade program (Galician sports games for school-age children) for the 2026/27 academic year, maintaining the free provision of sports accident insurance and transport for students between 6 and 16 years old. This is established by the ORDER of August 25, 2026, signed by the counselor Diego Calvo Pouso, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia number 166, dated September 2, 2026.

The call, which opens registration for the entire community, is addressed to educational centers, parent associations (ANPAS), clubs, municipal sports schools, school sports groupings, and associations throughout Galicia. The accident insurance will be funded directly by the General Secretariat for Sport, which will also provide free transport for participation in the activity, within the limitations of contracting and applying criteria for the maximum utilization of resources.

A consolidated program since 2009

The Xogade program, born in the 2009/10 season with two activities, is part of the Healthy Galicia Plan and continues to be a tool for the Active and Sporting Life projects (PVAD) of the Proxecta+ Plan-Sinergy Plan of the Department of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training. Its legal basis is Law 3/2012, of April 2, on Galician Sport, which attributes the promotion, regulation, and organization of school-age sports to the regional Administration.

For the 2026/27 academic year, six actions are announced:

• School Sporting Activity, with modalities such as track athletics, badminton, basketball, handball, cross-country, duathlon, futsal, multi-game 6-8, swimming, orienteering, artistic skating, table tennis, volleyball, chess, and playing with athletics.
• Federated Sporting Activity-Sports Insurance 6 to 16, which provides insurance to federated athletes from the affiliated Galician federations.
• Get to know my club, to bring students closer to the clubs in their surroundings.
• Playing with water and wind, with aquatic modalities such as kayak, surf, rowing, or sailing.
• Traditional and popular games, with the loan of materials (billardas, bowling pins, and chaves).
• Promotion activities, to make different sporting disciplines known.

Categories and conditions of participation

Participation in the School Sporting Activity will be completely free, and the organization will be the responsibility of the General Secretariat for Sport through the provincial sports services, with the possible collaboration of school sports groupings, clubs, city councils, and other entities. Four categories are established:

• Benjamín: persons born in 2018 and 2017.
• Alevín: persons born in 2016 and 2015.
• Infantil: persons born in 2014 and 2013.
• Cadete: persons born in 2012 and 2011.

The start date of the activity will be the day following the publication of the order in the Diario Oficial de Galicia. The official channel for communication and registration is the web application xogade.xunta.gal, which can also be accessed from the website of the Secretaría Xeral para o Deporte (deporte.xunta.gal).

Insurance for federated athletes

In the Federated Sports Activity-Sports Insurance 6 to 16 action, the Secretaría Xeral para o Deporte will provide sports insurance to all federated athletes aged 6 to 16 from the Galician federations adhered to the program. Registration will be carried out by the federations themselves as part of the license processing. Among the adhered federations are athletics, badminton, basketball, handball, football, hockey, judo, swimming, canoeing, rowing, rugby, surfing, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball, chess, and gymnastics, among others.

The call reinforces the commitment of the Xunta de Galicia to grassroots sports and the promotion of physical activity and healthy habits among the school population, eliminating economic barriers so that no boy or girl in Galicia is left out of sports practice during school age.
