Vistabella del Maestrat opens firebreaks and improves forest tracks

The Vistabella del Maestrat City Council has approved the execution of the actions of the Municipal Strategic Fund for Fire Prevention and Forest Management for fiscal year 2026, which include the opening of new firebreaks, the maintenance of discontinuity areas and the improvement of forest tracks in the municipal area. The decision was adopted through Mayoral Decree 2026-0256, of August 11, 2026, and is published in the Official Gazette of Castellón (BOP), number 97, of August 13, 2026, with official reference 03675-2026-U.

The agreement falls within the actions contemplated in the Local Forest Fire Prevention Plan (PLPIF) of Vistabella del Maestrat, which identifies the priority infrastructures and works to reduce the risk of fire in the municipality. The works arrive at the height of summer, when the danger of forest fires is at its maximum in the inland regions of Castellón, and are especially aimed at the wildland-urban interface areas, where fire threatens inhabited centers and places with large numbers of people.

Opening of new firebreaks

The first action consists of the opening of new firebreak areas or perimetric discontinuity zones in wildland-urban interface areas and in places of high influx of people or public use. It corresponds to action code 56 of the PLPIF and to infrastructures P.4.3.c and P.4.3.d, and affects nine parcels of cadastral mass 038:

• Parcels 00335, 00336, 00339, 00340, 00341, 00342, 00343, 00344 and 00345, with cadastral references 12139A03800335 to 12139A03800345.

Maintenance of firebreaks and strategic points

The second action provides for the maintenance and conservation of firebreak areas or linear or perimetric discontinuity zones in the same interface and public-use zones, as well as strategic management areas or points (PEG). Also under action code 56, it includes infrastructures P.4.3.a, with 0.50 hectares, and P.4.3.b, with 0.19 hectares, and affects sixteen parcels:

• Cadastral masses 92451, 93467 and 94463, with parcels numbered from 01 to 14 and cadastral references 9245101YK2694N to 9446314YK2694N.

Improvement of forest tracks

The third action consists of the maintenance, repair and improvement of forest tracks, including work on ditches, with concreting on slopes greater than 10%, ravines or fords for the passage of water. The concrete slab shall have a minimum thickness of 15 centimeters. It corresponds to action code 39 of the PLPIF and to infrastructure VAL-VI-2.008.02, with a total of 1,055.00 square meters:

• Mass 1, parcels 13, 15 and 9002, with cadastral references 12139A00100013, 12139A00100015 and 12139A00109002.

Ten days to file objections

This announcement is published for the general information of interested parties and, especially, of the holders of rights or legitimate interests who might be affected by the execution of the works. The Town Council warns that if no written statement is received within 10 days, it will be understood that the owners do not oppose the execution of the works on their properties. The communication is signed by the mayor of Vistabella del Maestrat, Jordi Alcon Molina, dated 11 August 2026.

In the midst of the summer campaign, the execution of these works reinforces the protection of population centers and access roads against possible forest fires in one of the most extensive and mountainous municipal districts in the province. Owners of the 28 affected plots must be attentive to the objection period if they consider that the works affect their rights.
