Viladecans announces the 17th state rapid painting competition

The Viladecans City Council has announced the 17th state rapid painting competition of the city of Viladecans, in an edition honoring Diego Fernández Pérez, with a total of 2,000 euros in prizes. The call, approved by agreement number 33 of the Local Government Board on July 29, 2026, was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) on August 25, 2026, with the official reference CVE 202610135114 and BDNS identifier 925737.
The competition, which will take place in person on September 5, 2026, aims to promote artistic creation in public spaces and invite artists from across the State to represent, in a single day, the urban and natural spaces of the city. The call is framed within the Regulatory Bases of the Prizes of the State Rapid Painting Competition, approved by agreement no. 13 of the Municipal Plenary on May 28, 2026, and definitively on July 13, 2026 (exp. 381/2026/C00157), and is processed under subsidy line 15/30000 of the Strategic Subsidy Plan (PES) 2025-2027.
Prizes and budget
The prizes, fully funded by the City Council, total 2,000 euros and are distributed across four categories:
- First prize: 800 euros and trophy.
- Second prize: 600 euros and trophy.
- Third prize: 400 euros and trophy.
- Local painter prize: 200 euros and trophy.
The amount is charged to budget concept 30102/33800/48000 (Culture Prizes) for the 2026 fiscal year. The organization has the support of the Viladecans Art and Crafts Association and the Espejo Foundation, without these assuming the status of collaborating entities for the purposes of Law 38/2003.
Participation and characteristics of the works
All adults residing in Spain may participate. Registration and the sealing of the supports will take place on the day of the competition, from 9:00 to 10:00 h, at the assembly hall of the Can Batllori Popular Culture Athenaeum (carrer Ernest Lluch, 12 bis). The technical conditions are as follows:
- Free painting technique, with the city of Viladecans as the central theme.
- Each participant may present up to two works (preferably canvases), but will only compete with one.
- Minimum dimensions of 40 × 60 cm and maximum dimensions of format 40F (100 × 81 cm).
- The works may not bear any signature or visible identifying element before the verdict.
- Each participant must provide their own materials.
The submission of the works will take place on the same September 5, from 13:00 to 14:00 h, at the same venue.
Verdict and awarding of prizes
The jury, composed of three people linked to the art world, will evaluate the works based on criteria of technical quality, composition, fidelity to the theme, and treatment, under a competitive bidding system. The verdict will be made public on September 5 at 5:00 PM, at which time the prizes and trophies will also be awarded at the Ateneu de Cultura Popular de Can Batllori. The jury cannot declare any prize void, and the winners of the first prize and the local painter prize will not be eligible for the same prize in the next edition.
