Valdecilla announces the call for the Head of the Rheumatology Section

The Cantabrian Health Service (SCS) has announced the opening for the position of Head of the Rheumatology Section in the Specialized Care Management of Area I: Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital. The call is formalized through Resolution PJSS/SCS/12/2026, published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 168, dated September 1, 2026, and signed on August 24 by the managing director of the SCS, Luis Miguel Carretero Alcántara, by delegation of the Minister of Health.
The position, with staff code 2039P74000001JP and level 26 of group A/A1, will be filled through the merit-based competition procedure regulated by regional health legislation. The resolution, which exhausts administrative remedies, is part of the policy for filling specialized care leadership positions within the Cantabrian health system.
Regulatory Framework
The call is based on Article 52 of Cantabria Law 9/2010, of December 23, regarding statutory personnel of Health Institutions of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria, and Order SAN/5/2014, of February 26, which regulates the procedure for the provision and evaluation of Head of Service and Head of Specialized Care Section positions. The assessment of merits will comply with Articles 8 and 9 of this order and its annexed scale.
Requirements and Applications
Medical staff with a permanent statutory appointment in the National Health System, holders of linked positions, or career civil servants who meet the requirements by the closing date may participate:
- Hold a bachelor’s or degree title and a specialist title in Rheumatology or an equivalent qualifying title.
- Have held a position in the specialty within the Hierarchical Services of Social Security or in hospitals with programs accredited by the National Commission of the specialty for a minimum of three years.
Applications, using the standardized form in Annex II available at www.saludcantabria.es, must be submitted within one month from the day following publication, addressed to the managing director of the SCS. A professional curriculum vitae and the technical management project for the healthcare unit must be attached.
Evaluation and Awarding
To be awarded the position, it will be necessary to achieve a minimum score of 32 points in the first phase and 48 points in the second. The Evaluation Commission is chaired by the managing director of the Specialized Care Management of Area I and composed of members from various health services:
- Elena Aurrecoechea Aguinaga, Head of Section at the Sierrallana Regional Hospital (SCS).
- Jaime Calvo Alén, Head of the Rheumatology Service at the Araba University Hospital (Osakidetza).
- María Rosario García de Vicuña, Head of the Rheumatology Service at the La Princesa University Hospital (SERMAS).
- Jimena Beatriz Manjón Rodríguez, Head of the Legal Advisory Service at the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital, as secretary.
The resolution may be appealed through contentious-administrative proceedings before the Contentious-Administrative Court of Santander within two months, or optionally through a motion for reconsideration before the Health Councilor within one month.
