USCIS raises H.R. 1 immigration fees; parole fee climbs to $1,050
Por FactBox Admin

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will raise most of the immigration fees created by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for fiscal year 2027, including the immigration parole fee, which climbs from $1,020 to $1,050. The adjustment was announced in a notice published in the Federal Register of October 1, 2026, and applies to any immigration benefit request postmarked on or after October 16, 2026. Requests postmarked from that date without the proper filing fee will be rejected.
The notice, issued by USCIS, a component of the Department of Homeland Security, and signed by Secretary Markwayne Mullin, carries the reference CIS No. 2879–26 and implements the annual inflation-adjustment mandate of H.R. 1, Public Law 119–21, 139 Stat. 72, signed on July 4, 2025. That law introduced the fees as minimum amounts, authorized agencies to adjust them through rulemaking and required annual updates based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers, with the fees codified at 8 U.S.C. Chapter 16.
USCIS calculated the adjustment using the CPI–U change from July 2025 to July 2026: the index moved from 323.048 to 333.918, an increase of approximately 3.36 percent. As the statute requires, most fees are rounded down to the next lowest multiple of $10, so some rise by $10 while others remain unchanged because the inflation-adjusted amount equals the current fee.

Enforcement fees and implementation
The same Federal Register document also carries a notice from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which will begin assessing $5,300 on October 16, 2026 for two enforcement fees established by H.R. 1: those applying to aliens ordered removed in absentia and later arrested, and to inadmissible aliens apprehended between ports of entry. Those fees stood at $5,000 for fiscal 2025 and were adjusted to $5,130 for fiscal 2026, effective December 1, 2025.
DHS states that the October 16 date gives the agency and USCIS time to issue guidance and operationalize the change, and gives the public time to adapt requests already in process. The department adds that it may codify the annual adjustments covered by the notice in 8 CFR part 106 in a future rule.
The increase matters to anyone filing an asylum application, seeking work authorization, applying for Temporary Protected Status or requesting parole, as well as to employers and travelers who pay these fees. Because the deadline is defined by postmark rather than receipt, applicants who file on or after October 16, 2026 must pay the new amounts or see their requests rejected.
