University of La Rioja announces 140 Santander wellbeing scholarships
Por FactBox Admin

The University of La Rioja has announced 140 grants from the Santander Wellbeing/Health Scholarships program, with a maximum amount of 50 euros each, intended to subsidize physiotherapy and psychology services for its university community. The call is formalized through a resolution dated October 21, 2026, by the Vice-Rector for Students and Employability, María Ángeles Martínez Calvo, published in the Official Gazette of La Rioja no. 206, on October 26, 2026. The application period will remain open until November 9, 2026.
The call is published as an abstract under articles 17.3B and 20.8 A of the General Subsidies Law 38/2003, of November 17, and the full text can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database, with the code BDNS: 936768. The document appears in section III, Other Provisions and Acts, with the reference 202610210125124 and order number III.4002, on pages 17850 and 17851 of the gazette.
This is not the first call of the program this academic year: on September 8, 2026, the same body published 25 grants from the Santander Scholarships | Financial Aid 2026 program, of 1,000 euros each, for Undergraduate and Master’s students enrolled in the 2026-2027 course (BDNS: 925797). On this occasion, the objective is different: it is not financial support for studies, but rather to cover health treatments for the university community.
Who can apply and until when
The intended beneficiaries in the call are three groups from the University of La Rioja:
- Students of official undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral degrees enrolled during the year 2026.
- Teaching and research staff (PDI).
- Technical, management, and administration and services staff (PTGAS).
The period opens the day after the publication of the abstract in the Official Gazette of La Rioja and ends without extension on November 9, 2026. The specific requirements for applicants are those set out in the 2nd basis of the call, and the award criteria are those of the 5th basis.
Amount and service conditions
The call grants 140 scholarships with a maximum amount of 50 euros each. The cost of the service must fit within the established economic range, with an admitted variation of up to 10% below those 50 euros:
- Services with a cost of 45 euros or more are accepted.
- Services with an amount lower than 45 euros are excluded.
The grant can be used for services already provided since January 1, 2026, as well as for future services carried out before December 31, 2026, allowing for the reimbursement of sessions already paid for by the beneficiary throughout the year.
How to apply and how to accept
The application requires completing two forms, one for each enabled platform:
- The first, on the University of La Rioja website, through the Unirioja Scholarships Platform, within the Santander Health Wellbeing Scholarships program.
- The second, on the website www.becas-santander.com, within the same program.
Once awarded, the beneficiary must confirm their acceptance through the Banco Santander platform within 3 business days. If they fail to do so, they lose the scholarship and it is awarded to those on the waiting list.
The resolution was signed in Logroño on October 21, 2026, and bears the secure verification code BOR-A-20261026-III–4002, with a verification address on the Government of La Rioja website.
Impact for the university community
The call extends a type of aid to students, faculty, and administrative and service staff that until now had focused on financial support for tuition and academic records. With 140 scholarships of 50 euros, the program partially covers the cost of physiotherapy and psychology sessions, two health services with growing demand and no general public coverage within the university environment. The margin is narrow for the applicant: only treatments of 45 euros or more are accepted, and acceptance must be formalized in just three business days.
