Vigo City Council incorporates three new firefighters into the emergency service

The Local Government Board of the Vigo City Council, at its session of 7 August 2026, agreed to appoint three new professionals as career civil servants to join the Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue Service (SPEIS) of the city. The decision, published on Monday in Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) number 154, will be added to the staff of a service essential for the safety of the people of Vigo.

The official announcement states that the three appointees are taking up posts included in the Public Employment Offer (OEP) for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022, called through the free shift and framed within qualification group C2 —Special Administration scale, Special Services subscale, Fire Extinction class—. The candidates proved the requirements set out both in the bases of the call and in the applicable regulations and in the internal SPEIS criteria relating to integration into the post.

The three appointed persons

Those appointed by the Local Government Board are:

  • Peleteiro Rey A. — one of the twenty-three firefighter posts
  • Corbacho Rodríguez A. — one of the seven driver-firefighter posts
  • Taibo Castro M. — one of the seven driver-firefighter posts

Two of the three new members, therefore, will join as drivers of fire extinguishing vehicles, a post that also requires specific qualification for handling SPEIS emergency units.

Taking office and conditions of possession

The appointed persons must take office within one month from the publication of the appointment in the DOG, that is, before 17 September 2026. Should they fail to do so, they will be declared in a ceased situation and consequently forfeited in their right, as established by current civil service legislation.

The announcement specifies that this appointment is published in accordance with the provisions of the bases of the selection process and the applicable civil service regulations.

An essential service for the safety of the city

SPEIS is the pillar of fire prevention and extinction in the municipality of Vigo. The incorporation of three new professionals strengthens a service that operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and which is vital for a city of nearly 300,000 inhabitants with significant industrial, port and tourist activity. The coverage of these posts, derived from an OEP called four years ago, responds to the need to maintain operational capacity in the face of departures, retirements and temporary leave of staff.

Processing and signatories of the announcement

The announcement was sent to the DOG from Vigo on 10 August 2026, and the minutes of the Local Government Board are signed, as delegated authorities, by María Olga Alonso Suárez, councillor delegated for Linguistic Normalisation, Education, Human Resources and Training —by virtue of the Mayoralty Resolution of 28 June 2024—, and Patricia Rodríguez Calviño, councillor of the Government Area for Security, Procurement, Festivals and Municipal Management —by Mayoralty Resolution of 25 September 2025 and Agreement of the Local Government Board of 7 November 2025—.
