Por FactBox Admin

The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) and the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) have appointed three linked university professors in the specialties of Rheumatology, Pulmonology, and Endocrinology, assigned to the university hospitals of Gran Canaria. The appointments are formalized through three joint resolutions dated August 5, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands No. 174, dated August 31, 2026.

The resolutions, signed by the Vice-Rector for Faculty, Planning, and Academic Organization, María Belén López Brito, and by the Director of the Canary Islands Health Service, Adasat Goya González, consolidate the figure of the linked professor, who combines university teaching and research with healthcare activity within the Canarian public health system.

Three specialties, two hospitals

The three appointments are assigned to the knowledge area of Medicine and the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences of the ULPGC, with the following healthcare assignments:

  • Anna María Claudia Wägner, Linked University Professor in Endocrinology and Nutrition, in the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Insular Materno Infantil University Hospital Complex (CHUIMI).
  • Antonio Naranjo Hernández, Linked University Professor in Rheumatology, in the Rheumatology Service of the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria (HUGCDN).
  • José Antonio Caminero Luna, Linked University Professor in Pulmonology, in the Pulmonology Service of the Doctor Negrín University Hospital of Gran Canaria (HUGCDN).

Each position is filled through a specific access competition, identified by RPT numbers 1246100009, 1246100010, and 1246100008, respectively.

A common regulatory framework

The three competitions were announced by Resolution of February 25, 2026 (BOE of 4.3.2026) and are resolved in accordance with Article 35 of Royal Decree 678/2023, of July 18, which regulates state accreditation for access to university teaching bodies. The candidates certified the requirements of Article 26 of Regulation 10/2024, regulating the access competitions for positions in the university teaching bodies of the ULPGC, approved by Agreement of the Governing Council on June 6, 2024.

In the same edition of the gazette, the Resolution of August 4, 2026 (No. 3102) is also published, by which university professors are appointed, by virtue of competition, in areas such as Pathological Anatomy, Applied Economics, or Plant Physiology, completing the renewal of the institution’s faculty.

Deadlines and effects

The appointments shall take full effect upon the assumption of office by the interested parties, which must take place within a maximum period of 20 days from the day following the publication of each resolution in the Official State Gazette. Against these resolutions, which are final in administrative proceedings, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed within two months, or a motion for reconsideration within one month.

The consolidation of these linked professors strengthens the bridge between the university and the Canarian public health system, ensuring that teaching and clinical research in high-demand specialties such as rheumatology, pulmonology, or endocrinology are developed directly in the reference hospitals of Gran Canaria, for the benefit of the training of future specialists and patient care.
