Torre Pacheco announces substitute Justice of the Peace position due to resignation

Por FactBox Admin

The vacancy arises due to the resignation of the previous holder

The Torre Pacheco City Council has published in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) an edict for the coverage of the position of substitute Justice of the Peace, following the resignation of the previous holder and the subsequent formal acknowledgement of this circumstance by the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice. The publication appears in issue number 189 of the BORM, corresponding to Tuesday, 18 August 2026, in section IV on Local Administration.

The call for applications is based on Articles 101 and following of the Organic Law on the Judiciary and on Articles 4 and 5 of the Regulations for Justices of the Peace. According to the edict, the person holding the position will be elected by the City Council plenary from among all applications submitted, following the usual procedure for this type of appointment in the municipalities of the Region of Murcia.

Deadline and method for submitting applications

The edict grants a period of fifteen working days for all interested parties who meet the established requirements to submit their application. This must be deposited in the registry of the Torre Pacheco City Council by any of the means provided for in Article 16 of Law 39/2015, of 1 October, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

Required supporting documentation

Applicants must attach the following documentation to their application:

  • National Identity Document (DNI).
  • Certificate of criminal record.
  • Academic and professional curriculum vitae.
  • Medical certificate certifying that they do not suffer from any illness that would incapacitate them for the office of Justice of the Peace.
  • Sworn declaration that they are not subject to any ground of incompatibility for the performance of the office.

Scope of the role of the substitute Justice of the Peace

The substitute Justice of the Peace exercises judicial functions in municipalities that, due to their size, do not have a full-time Justice of the Peace court. It is an essential position to guarantee access to justice in the districts and small towns of the Region of Murcia, and its coverage is particularly relevant in a municipality such as Torre Pacheco, which brings together population centres such as Roldán, Dolores de Pacheco and Balsicas.

Relevance for the local administration of justice

A vacancy for a substitute Justice of the Peace can have a direct impact on the processing of minor judicial proceedings and on functions such as mediation or chairing the governing boards of homeowners’ associations. The publication of the edict in the BORM marks the official start of the process to restore this key figure in the administration of justice in Torre Pacheco, a town whose edict was signed by the mayor Pedro Ángel Roca Tornel on 27 July 2026.
