Tornabous opens the process to elect the new titular justice of the peace

The City Council of Tornabous has opened the public call to elect the new titular justice of the peace for the municipality, as the term of the current holder is soon to end. The Plenary of the corporation unanimously agreed to initiate the process, which is published in the call notice of the Official Gazette of the Province of Lleida no. 191, of October 7, 2026 (CVE BOP-2026_0_191_8233). Interested parties have twenty business days to submit their application.

The notice, signed by Mayor Elisenda Torres Solé on October 1, 2026, recalls that it is the responsibility of the Plenary of the corporation to elect the person to be designated as the titular justice of the peace, in accordance with articles 101 and 102 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and articles 4 to 7 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace. The document is issued from the municipal headquarters at Plaça de la Vila, 1, 25331 Tornabous.

The twenty-business-day period begins to count the day after the publication of the notice in the provincial gazette. Applications must be submitted in writing addressed to the secretariat of the corporation, and the announcement is displayed to the public for general knowledge.

The notice from Tornabous refers to the established legal conditions and the regime of articles 4 to 7 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on Justices of the Peace, as well as articles 101 and 102 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary. In similar calls published this autumn in the same gazette, such as that of Almacelles (BOP no. 188, of October 2, 2026, CVE BOP-2026_0_188_8020), it is reminded that applicants must be Spanish, of legal age, and not affected by any cause of incapacity, incompatibility, or prohibition provided for in the organic law and the regulation of justices of the peace.

Four-year term and appointment by the TSJC

Once the deadline has closed and the selection is resolved, the appointment is the responsibility of the Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia. Regulation 3/1995 establishes that justices of the peace must take office within twenty calendar days following the publication of the appointment in the official provincial bulletin, by oath or promise before the judge of first instance and instruction of the district. The duration of the term is four years and is calculated from the publication of the appointment. An administrative appeal may be filed against the agreement of the Governing Chamber before the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary within one month.

The call for applications comes after the Plenary of the Tornabous City Council held an ordinary session on September 23, 2026, in which the new municipal organization was approved and the appointment of the deputy mayors was reported (BOP no. 188, of October 2, 2026, CVE BOP-2026_0_188_8008).

For the residents of Tornabous, the process determines who will assume the proximity jurisdiction in the municipality for the next four years, a figure that resolves minor conflicts and processes basic proceedings without the need to travel to the capital of the judicial district. The calendar is now in the hands of the candidacies submitted within the fixed deadline.
