The City Council of Toledo has announced the twenty-third edition of the Princess Galiana Women’s Narrative Contest, approved by resolution of the Local Government Board dated 29 July 2026. The extract of the call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Toledo number 153, of 13 August 2026, and works may be submitted until 20 October 2026, inclusive.

The announcement is disseminated in the form of an extract, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of 17 November, General Grants Law, and its full text can be consulted in the National Grants Database (BDNS) under identifier 923649. The governing rules were approved by the Local Government Board of the city of Toledo and are published in the same system. The document, which bears number I-3637 and verification code 2026.00003637, is signed by the Councillor for Social Affairs, Inclusion, Family and Seniors, Mª Soledad Illescas León.

A prize that gives voice to women

The call awards literary works that incorporate a vision of society that is non-discriminatory on the grounds of gender. The novels must address any human aspect that helps to highlight the figure of women and offer a complex, diverse and contemporary view of them, beyond traditionally assigned roles, especially those linked to caregiving, sacrifice and suffering.

Prizes: publication of the winning work

The first prize consists of the publication, for sale, of the winning novel, accompanied by a commemorative diploma. The Accésit Mujer Novel is also awarded, with a commemorative diploma. The competition is open to both women and men writers, with different requirements depending on the category:

  • First prize: women or men writers who submit an original, unpublished novel in line with the theme described.
  • Accésit Mujer Novel: women writers who, in addition, have not published more than three works in any format, through traditional or digital means, nor have self-published.

How and where to submit the works

Submissions must be made in a dual format, as established by the call:

  • Direct delivery or sending by certified mail to the City Council of Toledo, Department of Social Affairs, Inclusion, Family and Seniors (Plaza del Consistorio nº 1, 45071 Toledo).
  • Sending by email to the addresses esperanzap@toledo.es and estherruiz@toledo.es.

The submission period will remain open from the publication of the call in the provincial gazette until 20 October 2026, inclusive.

With this twenty-third edition, the Princesa Galiana contest is consolidated as one of the reference literary events in Toledo and as a tool to promote the presence of women in contemporary narrative. The publication and sale of the winning novel guarantees a real editorial outlet for the award-winning work, while the Accésit Mujer Novel recognizes the talent of emerging women writers.
