Tinajo opens the call for transport scholarships with 170,000 euros
Por FactBox Admin

The Tinajo City Council has announced financial transport grants intended for students with their habitual residence in the municipality who pursue official studies outside the municipal boundaries during the 2025/2026 academic year. The line is endowed with 170,000 euros and its summary is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas number 125, dated October 19, 2026, under announcement number 3,349 and reference 2118109. The call is listed in the National Grants Database with the identification code BDNS 934572.
The call is supported by articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and is processed under a competitive bidding regime through predetermined amounts. The preamble of the bases invokes articles 9.2, 14, and 27 of the Spanish Constitution, Law 7/1985, of April 2, regulating the Bases of the Local Regime, Law 7/2015, of April 1, on the municipalities of the Canary Islands, and Law 6/2014, of July 25, Canarian Law on Non-University Education, in addition to the municipal General Ordinance on Subsidies.
The stated objective is to partially compensate for the travel costs of families in the municipality and reduce the economic impact of insularity and the distance to the educational center. The eligible period spans from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.
Eligible Education and Family Requirements
The grant may be requested by persons registered and with habitual and uninterrupted residence in Tinajo for at least the twelve months prior to the last day of the deadline. They must have been enrolled in the 2025/2026 academic year in any of these educational levels, provided that the center is authorized and located outside the municipal boundaries:
- Baccalaureate (Bachillerato).
- Vocational training cycles of intermediate or higher level and equivalent special regime professional teachings.
- Official university undergraduate degrees and official university master’s degrees.
Studies must be delivered in a face-to-face modality; blended learning is permitted when the center’s certificate proves regular travel. ESO (compulsory secondary education), exclusively online studies, access or exam preparation courses, private academies, languages not integrated into an official plan, and elementary music education are excluded.
For baccalaureate and vocational training, enrollment in the full course or all pending modules is required; for university, at least 30 ECTS credits or all pending credits when there are fewer. The minimum load may be waived due to a disability equal to or greater than 33 percent, serious illness, work-life balance, or incompatible professional activity, with documentary accreditation.
Amounts from 477.40 to 808.50 euros per student
The guidelines establish two categories based on the location of the center and an increase for large families:
- Center outside the island of Lanzarote: 693.00 euros; 808.50 euros if the family is a large family.
- Center in Lanzarote but outside the municipality of Tinajo: 477.40 euros; 554.40 euros for large families.
Academic performance is not scored: the certification from the center only serves to verify that enrollment and teaching activity were maintained. If the credit is insufficient for all admitted applications, a single pro-rata coefficient will be applied, and the amounts will be rounded down to two decimal places. The grants are compatible with other subsidies for the same purpose, but the total may not exceed the actual transport cost incurred.
Twenty business days and six months to resolve
The submission period is twenty business days from the day following the publication of the summary in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas, therefore opening on October 20, 2026. Applications are submitted using the model in Annex I via the electronic registry of the Tinajo City Council headquarters, in-person registry, or any of the means specified in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015.
The required documentation includes a certificate of enrollment specifying the course, modality, center, location, and teaching load; final academic certification or equivalent document; accreditation of large family status when invoked; and third-party registration only if necessary. The City Council will officially verify identity, residency (empadronamiento), and seniority. Defects shall be corrected within ten business days.
The instruction corresponds to the municipal education unit and the assessment to a commission chaired by the competent council department, with two members and a secretary with a voice but no vote. The maximum period to resolve and publish is six months; in the absence of an express resolution, applications are understood to be rejected. Payment is made in a single installment via transfer and without guarantee. An appeal for reversal may be filed against the guidelines within one month, or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months.
The call directly affects the domestic economy of families in Tinajo, a municipality without its own baccalaureate, vocational training (FP), or university centers, whose young people must travel daily or reside outside the island to continue their studies. With a maximum of 693 euros per student and 170,000 euros in credit, the margin covers more than two hundred students in the general category, although the actual number of beneficiaries will depend on the admitted applications and the pro-rata distribution. The announcement is signed by the mayor-president, Jesús Casimiro Machín Duque.
