Tarifa approves extraordinary credit for the January and February storms

The Plenary of the Tarifa City Council has initially approved a budget modification file that enables an extraordinary credit to cover expenses that cannot be delayed until the following fiscal year, resulting from the severe rain, wind, and flood storms recorded in the municipality during the months of January and February 2026. The operation is fully financed by the liquid treasury surplus and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cádiz number 160, dated August 20, 2026.

In the same edition, the Corporation makes definitive a credit supplement of 2,617,514.66 euros for the budget allocation of the Public Land Heritage, also financed by the treasury surplus, after no claims were filed during the public exhibition period.

Extraordinary credit for the storms

The agreement, adopted in an ordinary session held on July 30, 2026, responds to extraordinary, unpredictable, and unforeseen circumstances caused by the storms that affected Tarifa in the first months of the year. The file is identified as G2026/6573, with accounting number 21/2026.

The file will be available for public inspection on the notice board of the City Council’s electronic headquarters for fifteen days, during which period claims will be admitted from the persons and entities listed in the current municipal legislation. If no allegations are presented, the agreement will be considered definitively approved and will be published again in the provincial gazette.

Supplement for the Public Land Heritage

In an extraordinary session on June 15, 2026, the Plenary initially approved the credit supplement for the allocation of the Public Land Heritage (file G2026/5245, accounting 06/2026). As no claim has been filed, the agreement is considered definitively approved and is published in its entirety.

The breakdown of the operation is as follows:

• Application 151/60000 – Public Land Heritage: €2,617,514.66
• Total supplement: €2,617,514.66
• Financing – Treasury Surplus for general expenses (application 87000): €2,617,514.66

Processing and appeals

Against the agreement of definitive approval of the supplement, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed directly in the form and within the period established by the rules of said jurisdiction, within two months from the publication of the announcement, without prejudice to exercising any other appeal deemed appropriate.

The agreements are signed by the mayor-president, José Antonio Santos Perea, and the acting general secretary, Francisco Antonio Ruiz Romero, and are inserted in the gazette with announcement numbers 262,637 and 265,736.

Relevance for residents

These budget modifications provide the Tarifa City Council with immediate liquidity to repair the damage caused by the storms at the beginning of the year and to strengthen the municipal land assets, without resorting to new debt. Financing through treasury surplus allows these needs to be addressed with own resources, which is key for the recovery of the municipality following the episodes of rain, wind, and flooding.
