Tàrrega obre la convocatòria per cobrir les places de jutge de pau

The City Council of Tàrrega has opened the public call to fill the vacancies for the position of titular and substitute justice of the peace of the municipality. The call is published in edict 7733 of the Official Gazette of the Province of Lleida (BOP) no. 178, dated September 17, 2026, with the official reference BOP-2026_0_178_7733 (pp. 1-2). Interested parties have twenty business days from the date of publication to submit their application to the City Council.

The call stems from the document of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) dated July 17, 2026, which processes the certificate of the agreement adopted by the Commission of the Governing Chamber of the TSJC in the session of June 30, 2026. This agreement initiates the procedures for the proposal to the Court for the appointment of the titular and substitute justice of the peace of Tàrrega, as the four-year mandate for which they were appointed is nearing its end.

The legal framework of the call is Chapter VI of Title IV of Book I of Organic Law 6/1985, of July 1, of the Judiciary, and Law 38/1988, of December 28, on Demarcation and the Judicial Plant, in accordance with articles 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace.

Deadline and documentation to be submitted

The submission deadline is twenty business days starting from the publication of the edict in the Official Gazette of the Province. The application must be addressed to the Tàrrega City Council and must include:

  • A responsible declaration stating that the legal requirements to hold the office are met.
  • A photocopy of the DNI (ID card).
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • A declaration regarding the activity currently being performed.

Applicants must meet the capacity conditions set by the call:

  • Be Spanish.
  • Be of legal age.
  • Not incur any cause of incapacity: being physically or mentally impeded for judicial function; having been convicted of an intentional crime without rehabilitation; being prosecuted or indicted for an intentional crime without acquittal or an interlocutory order of dismissal; or not being in full exercise of civil rights.

Incompatibilities and file consultation

The call also details the causes of incompatibility that prevent holding the office:

  • The exercise of any other jurisdiction alien to that of the Judiciary.
  • Any position of popular election or political appointment of the State, the autonomous communities, the provinces, and local entities and dependent bodies.
  • Occupations or positions funded or remunerated by the State Administration, the General Courts, the Royal House, the autonomous communities, the provinces, the municipalities, and any dependent entity, body, or company.
  • The practice of law (as an attorney or solicitor).
  • Any type of legal consultancy, whether remunerated or not.

At the City Council secretariat, the file can be examined and all necessary information regarding requirements, the duration of the term, and remuneration can be collected. The edict was signed by the mayor, Rosa M. Perelló Escoda, in Tàrrega on September 15, 2026.

Background: recent appointments in the BOP

The call for applications in Tàrrega is added to other renewal processes for justices of the peace in the province. BOP no. 163, of August 26, 2026, published edict 7172 of the TSJC with the appointments agreed upon by the Governing Chamber on June 30, 2026, for municipalities such as Almenar, Barbens, Belianes, Vilanova de Segrià, Organyà, Massalcoreig, Biosca, Rialp, and Vall de Cardós, among others. According to Regulation 3/1995, justices of the peace must take office within twenty calendar days following the publication of the appointment, and the mandate has a duration of four years.

The vacancy in Tàrrega directly affects legal professionals and residents of the capital of Urgell, who will see the renewal of the two local positions in charge of the first instance in minor matters and conciliation functions. The process is open to any person who meets the legal requirements and submits the documentation within the deadline, and the final resolution of the appointment will correspond to the High Court of Justice of Catalonia.
