Subtel authorizes Conect SpA for a new radio link in the Metropolitan Region

Por FactBox Admin

The Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (Subtel) authorized the company Conect SpA to install, operate, and exploit a new point-to-point radio link in the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, thereby expanding its intermediate telecommunications service network. The decision was formalized through exempt decree No. 829, dated August 5, 2026, and was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile No. 44,543, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, in Section II of Particular Regulations (official reference CVE 2865614).

The modification applies to the Intermediate Telecommunications Service concession granted to Conect SpA (RUT No. 96.965.220-K), domiciled at General Mackenna No. 1369, commune of Santiago, via supreme decree No. 193 of 2002. The request was submitted by the concessionaire under number 7,932 on 01.21.2026, and no oppositions were presented to its publication in extract.

The authorized link connects two stations in the Metropolitan Region, with the following technical characteristics:

  • Station A (RM1184): Hijuela La Victoria, Loteo Casas de Chacabuco, Carretera General San Martín (E9N), commune of Colina; frequency of 10.730 MHz, gain of 37.9 dBi, emission 60M0D7WT, and power of 0.71 W.
  • Station B (RM0662): Huertos Familiares 3 Oriente No. 216, Calle 2 Sur, commune of Tiltil; frequency of 11.250 MHz.
  • Polarization: vertical and horizontal (V/H).

The support infrastructure for the radiating systems will be mounted on a braced tower (code RM1184) and a monopole (code CL-RM-1151), authorized through exempt decrees No. 310 of 2018, No. 246 of 2024, No. 308 of 2018, No. 580 of 2023, and No. 11 of 2024.

Deadlines and conditions

The decree establishes the maximum deadlines for the commissioning of the link, all relative to the date of publication in the Official Gazette:

  • Start of works: 2 months.
  • Completion of works: 23 months.
  • Start of service: 24 months.

Additionally, the basic technical project presented by the concessionaire is approved, the documentation of which will be archived at the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications. The authorization is subject to the payment of fees for the use of the radio spectrum, and the company is obliged to comply with the applicable legal, regulatory, and technical provisions.

Regulatory framework

The measure is based on Decree Law No. 1,762 of 1977, which created the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications; Law No. 18,168 of 1982, the General Telecommunications Law; Supreme Decree No. 103 of 2008; and Resolution No. 36 of 2024, from the Comptroller General of the Republic, regarding the exemption from the toma de razón (legal review) process. The act was signed by order of the President of the Republic by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Louis de Grange Concha, and transcribed by the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Romina Garrido Iglesias.

The expansion reinforces the traffic transport capacity of Conect SpA in the northern sector of the Metropolitan Region, connecting the communes of Colina and Tiltil. For users and operators in the area, the new link represents an improvement in the availability and continuity of intermediate telecommunications services, within a context of growing demand for connectivity in the capital’s peripheral communes.
