Timber auction of Monte Meriego in Vargas for the forestry sector

The Vargas Neighborhood Council has called for a public auction, via open procedure, for the disposal of the 2026 timber forest harvesting of the Public Utility Mountain number 377 Sexies, named Meriego. The announcement is published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 159, dated August 19, 2026, within the administrative contracting section, with reference CVE-2026-6574.

The object of the contract is the disposal of timber, under the Special Administration modality, and is processed at the risk and venture of the successful bidder. The auction will be held on the first Friday following fifteen business days after the publication of the announcement, at ten-thirty in the morning, at the “Antiguas Escuelas” premises in Vargas, headquarters of the Neighborhood Council office, presided over by the local mayor or a designated person.

Object and characteristics of the lot

The harvesting corresponds to action unit ARD013 of the mountain management instrument, which includes the eucalyptus trees included in said unit. The technical conditions are governed by the General Specifications of Technical-Faculty Conditions regulating the execution of mountain enjoyment, published in the Official State Gazette on August 21, 1975, and by the special specifications for the regulation of timber harvesting under the ICONA, published in the Official State Gazette on August 20, 1975.

• Quantity: 1,382 cubic meters (mc) of eucalyptus.
• Base bidding price: 33,168 euros, VAT not included.
• Modality: at risk and venture.
• Location: unit ARD013 of the Management Plan.
• Execution period: twelve months from the final award.

Guarantees and submission of bids

Interested parties must establish a provisional guarantee equivalent to 2% of the base bidding price and, if awarded the contract, a definitive guarantee of 6% of the total amount. Bids will be accepted at the Vargas Neighborhood Council premises, in the La Magdalena neighborhood, or at the president’s residence, in a sealed envelope, until fifteen minutes before the start of the auction.

The opening of the bids will take place at the “Antiguas Escuelas” in Vargas at 10:30 AM on the designated day, once the Contracting Board has been constituted. The bidder who presents the most advantageous economic offer will have twenty business days from the award to provide the documentation required for the formalization of the contract; after this period, it will be understood that they have withdrawn their offer.

Auction conditions

Should the first call remain vacant, a second auction will be held on the following first Friday, at the same place and time. If it remains vacant for a second time, a third will be held the following Friday under the same conditions, with the Junta Vecinal reserving the right of first refusal. Publication costs shall be borne by the successful bidder, and the VAT percentage is not included in the bidding price.

The announcement was signed in Vargas on August 13, 2026, by the president of the Junta Vecinal, Ana Belén Salmón Gómez.

The call represents an opportunity for the local timber sector, which will be able to access a significant volume of eucalyptus in a public utility forest managed by the neighborhood entity. In addition to generating income for the community, the award guarantees the continuity of the sustainable forest management of Monte Meriego in accordance with its management instrument.
