Sony Life Singapore enters voluntary liquidation, EY liquidators appointed

Sony Life Singapore Pte Ltd (Company Registration No. 201716748E) has resolved to wind up voluntarily, a decision published in the Republic of Singapore Government Gazette on 15 September 2026. The sole member passed the resolutions by written resolution on 9 September 2026, and the company has appointed Purandar Janampalli Rao and Angela Ee Meng Yen of EY Corporate Advisors Pte Ltd as joint and several liquidators.

The winding-up is being conducted under the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018 (Act 40 of 2018), with the resolutions adopted pursuant to Section 184G(1) of the Companies Act 1967. The company, incorporated in the Republic of Singapore, is now in members’ voluntary liquidation.

The resolutions

Four resolutions were passed by the sole member on 9 September 2026, covering the winding-up and its administration:

  • A special resolution to wind up the company voluntarily under Section 160(1)(b) of the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018.
  • An ordinary resolution appointing Purandar Janampalli Rao and Angela Ee Meng Yen of EY Corporate Advisors Pte Ltd as joint and several liquidators, with remuneration fixed on the usual scale of their professional charges.
  • A special resolution authorising the liquidators to exercise powers under Section 177(1) and (2) of the Act and to distribute assets to members in specie.
  • An ordinary resolution changing the registered office to the liquidators’ address at One Raffles Quay, North Tower, #18-01, Singapore 048583, with immediate effect.

The resolutions were dated 9 September 2026 and signed by director Koji Morita.

Notice to creditors

In a separate notice dated 15 September 2026, the liquidators called on creditors of the company to come forward and prove their claims. Creditors are required on or before 15 October 2026 to send in their names and addresses, the particulars of their debts or claims, and the names and addresses of their solicitors (if any) to the liquidator at EY Corporate Advisors Pte Ltd, One Raffles Quay, North Tower, #18-01, Singapore 048583.

Creditors who fail to prove their debts or claims within the deadline will be excluded from the benefit of any distribution made before such proof is lodged.

Impact for policyholders and creditors

The voluntary liquidation of Sony Life Singapore marks a notable corporate exit in Singapore’s insurance and financial services landscape, with consequences for policyholders and creditors who hold claims against the company. The 15 October 2026 deadline is the critical date for any party seeking to participate in the distribution of the company’s assets, and the liquidators’ appointment under the Insolvency, Restructuring and Dissolution Act 2018 provides the statutory framework for an orderly winding-up and distribution of assets, including in specie.
