Son Espases announces a call for the appointment of the ICU supervisor position

The Son Espases University Hospital, of the Health Service of the Balearic Islands, has called for the provision, through the system of free appointment, of the job position of unit supervisor for Adult Intensive Care (ICU), an intermediate health management position that is vacant in the center’s authorized organic staff. The call is detailed in Resolution 8585, electronically signed on August 21, 2026, by the managing director Cristina Granados Ulecia, by delegation of the Minister of Health, and published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 106, of August 25, 2026, in Section II, page 46015.

Regulatory framework and convening body

The call is based on article 29 of Law 55/2003, of December 16, on the framework statute of statutory personnel of health services, and on articles 23 to 25 of Royal Decree-Law 1/1999, on the selection of statutory personnel and the provision of positions. It is also based on article 46 of Law 7/2024, of December 11, on urgent administrative simplification measures of the Balearic Islands, regarding the provision of singularized positions.

The competence to convene and resolve the procedure corresponds to the territorial management by virtue of the Resolution of the Minister of Health of July 10, 2025 (BOIB no. 94, of 07/17/2025), which delegates to the holders of the managements the provision of intermediate, assimilated, and singularized management positions, except for service heads.

Requirements and characteristics of the position

The position will be occupied under a regime of exclusive dedication, unless the successful candidate expressly waives modality B of the specific supplement upon taking office. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold the status of statutory health personnel with a permanent appointment in subgroup A2, in active service or in a situation with a reserved place, and provide service in a health institution of the National Health System.
• Hold the official qualification that enables them to occupy the position, the necessary functional capacity, and not have been separated from service due to disciplinary proceedings in the previous six years.
• Statutory interim personnel for vacancies may also apply, but their selection will depend on the absence of selectable permanent personnel and will be for a maximum period of one year.

The successful candidate will report organically to the Managing Direction of the hospital and functionally to the Nursing Direction, and must take office within a maximum period of one month from the publication of the appointment resolution.

Functions and selection process

Among the functions of the position, the management and coordination of the nursing team, the guarantee of healthcare quality and the safety of the critical patient, professional training and capacity building, the management of material resources, and the monitoring of patient safety indicators, such as falls, pressure ulcers, or healthcare-associated infections, stand out.

Applications shall be submitted using the model published on the website www.ibsalut.es within a period of twenty (20) business days counted from the day following the publication of the resolution in the BOIB. Along with the application, the curriculum vitae, a management and organization project, and the accreditation of merits must be provided, which will be assessed by the Evaluation Commission designated in Annex 2:

Closing

The call will allow for the filling of an intermediate management position of great healthcare relevance in one of the reference hospitals of the Balearic Islands, at a time when the management of critical care units is key to patient quality and safety. The resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, may be appealed for reconsideration within one month or directly before the contentious-administrative courts of Palma within two months.
