SESPA awards 959 Nursing positions following court ruling execution

The Directorate of Professionals of the Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA) has made public the list of positions to be awarded in the selection process for access to 959 permanent statutory staff positions in the category of Nurse, and has set the date and procedure for the choice of position by execution of judgment. The resolution, signed on August 11, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) number 163, of August 24, 2026, under code 2026-06856.

The process is part of the extraordinary Public Employment Offer for the stabilization of temporary employment, approved by the Agreement of May 27, 2022, of the Governing Council in application of Law 20/2021, of December 28, on urgent measures for the reduction of temporality in public employment. The merit competition was convened by Resolution of December 15, 2022, of the SESPA Management Directorate (BOPA of December 27, 2022), and now, following the execution of Judgment 30/2026, the qualifying Tribunal has submitted the appointment proposal and the awarding of destinations is proceeding.

Choice of position on September 9

The candidate proposed by the Tribunal must appear at the selection procedure on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM, at the headquarters of the SESPA Directorate of Professionals, located at calle Caveda, no. 12, 1.º C, Oviedo. The call is made in favor of Mr. Joaquín Javier López de Rueda Albarrán, with a total score of 69.310 points, who may choose from the positions offered in Health Areas I, II, IV, V, VI, and VIII.

Distribution of positions by health areas

The positions to be awarded are distributed among six health areas of the region, all of them in hospital centers:

• Health Area I-HOSPITAL: 2 positions
• Health Area II-HOSPITAL: 6 positions
• Health Area IV-HOSPITAL: 114 positions
• Health Area V-HOSPITAL: 20 positions
• Health Area VI-HOSPITAL: 2 positions
• Health Area VIII-HOSPITAL: 4 positions

Conditions and appeals

The resolution warns that applicants who do not make their choice of position will lose the rights derived from their participation in the selection tests. Furthermore, by virtue of the Fourteenth Base of the call and in accordance with Law 20/2021, the status of permanent statutory staff may only be acquired in a single category as a result of the stabilization processes provided for in said regulation.

Against the resolution, which does not exhaust the administrative route, an appeal for reversal (recurso de alzada) may be filed before the Minister of Health within one month from the day following its publication, in accordance with Law 2/1995, of March 13, and article 121 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure.

The awarding of these 959 positions represents a decisive step toward consolidating the Nursing staff of the Asturian healthcare system and reducing temporary employment in the public sector, a central objective of Law 20/2021. For the thousands of applicants who participated in the stabilization process, the resolution ends a long wait and reinforces the staffing levels in the region’s hospitals.
