Sernapesca resolves replacement of horse mackerel fishing quotas in two regions
Por FactBox Admin

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) has resolved the replacement of vacant registrations in the artisanal fishing registry for the jack mackerel fishery in the regions of Tarapacá and Atacama. The decision was formalized through two exempt resolutions dated August 19, 2026, whose abstracts were published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Chile on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The measure was adopted by the service’s National Directorate, signed by the national director María Soledad Tapia Almonacid, and is part of the management of the artisanal fishing registry, an instrument that regulates fishers’ access to catch quotas for fisheries subject to an administration regime.
Two resolutions for two regions
The replacement of quotas was processed separately for each region, with different exempt resolutions:
- Exempt Resolution No. 2,557/2026, dated August 19, 2026, for the purse seine jack mackerel fishery (Trachurus murphyi) in the Tarapacá Region.
- Exempt Resolution No. 2,559/2026, dated August 19, 2026, for the jack mackerel fishery (Trachurus murphyi) in the Atacama Region.
In both cases, the requests for the replacement of vacant registrations submitted by the individuals identified in each administrative act are resolved, and they proceed to occupy the quotas left vacant in the registry.
Publication and transparency
The full text of Resolution No. 2,557/2026 is published on the electronic domain site of Sernapesca and that of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture. In the case of Resolution No. 2,559/2026, in addition to the full text, its respective Technical Report, which supports the decision adopted, is published.
Both documents were electronically signed in accordance with Law No. 19,799, with time-stamping and an advanced electronic signature, and were issued from Valparaíso, the headquarters of the service’s National Directorate.
Scope of the decision
The resolution defines who accesses the jack mackerel catch quotas in the regions of Tarapacá and Atacama, a fishery of importance for artisanal fishing in northern Chile. The replacement of vacant registrations allows the registry to remain operational and ensures that available quotas are occupied by fishers qualified according to current regulations.
For artisanal fishers in both regions, the publication of these abstracts in the Official Gazette constitutes the formal notice of the quota allocation, and access to the full text on official sites allows for the identification of the beneficiaries and the technical grounds for each resolution.
