Six biologists join as career civil servants in the Canary Islands

The General Directorate of the Civil Service of the Government of the Canary Islands has appointed six candidates as career civil servants for the Higher Facultative Body, Higher Facultative Technical Scale, Biology Specialty (Group A, Subgroup A1) of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. The decision was adopted via Resolution of August 10, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) no. 168, of August 21, 2026, which also definitively assigns the job positions to those selected.

The process is part of the selective tests convened by Resolution of November 29, 2023 (BOC no. 243, of December 13), with a total of six positions: five corresponding to the general track and one to the disability reserve. Since no candidates were selected through the disability track, and the call was in its final year of validity of the Public Employment Offer, Article 5.1 of Decree 8/2011, of January 27, was applied, adding the vacant position to the open track.

The six new civil servants

The list of selected persons was published by the Resolution of June 23, 2026 (BOC no. 133, of July 3, 2026), which increased the five general track positions with the vacant position from the disability track. The appointees, along with their total scores, are:

• Rosa Delia Castillo Armas (Las Palmas), 10.778 points.
• María Leticia Rodríguez Navarro (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), 9.64 points.
• Marta Martínez Pérez (Las Palmas), 9.142 points.
• Nazareth Tabares Pérez (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), 9.012 points.
• Javier Luis Ramos Delgado (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), 8.754 points.
• Sara Ramos Pino (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), 8.13 points.

Assigned destinations

The resolution definitively assigns the job positions according to the order of scores and the preferences expressed. The destinations are distributed among various departments of the Canarian Administration:

• Rosa Delia Castillo Armas: Section Head in the Fisheries Development Service of the General Directorate of Fisheries (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
• Marta Martínez Pérez and Nazareth Tabares Pérez: Program Coordinators at the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
• María Leticia Rodríguez Navarro: Section Head of Environmental Impact at the General Directorate of Environmental Quality (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
• Javier Luis Ramos Delgado: Technician in the Western Coast Technical Service of the General Directorate of Coasts and Management of the Canarian Maritime Space (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
• Sara Ramos Pino: Technician at the Timanfaya National Park (Tinajo), under the General Directorate of the Natural Environment.

Deadlines and termination of interim staff

Assumption of office must take place within fifteen (15) calendar days from the publication in the BOC, extended to one (1) month when it involves a change of place of residence; those who do not assume office within the deadline shall forfeit their right. The resolution also declares the termination of the interim civil servants who held the positions identified by numbers 10628210 and 18799, with legal and economic effects on the day prior to the effective assumption of office by the new holders.

Against this resolution, which exhausts administrative remedies, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands within two months, or an optional appeal for reversal before the Directorate General itself within one month. The resolution is signed by the Director General of the Civil Service, Francisco Javier Rodríguez del Castillo.

Relevance

With this appointment, the Canarian Administration consolidates six permanent technical positions with biological profiles that had until now been covered by interim staff, reinforcing the technical structure in key areas such as fisheries, the environment, environmental quality, and research. The incorporation of these career civil servants reduces temporality in regional public employment and guarantees the continuity of essential services linked to the management of the islands’ natural resources.
