Santander appoints eight driver-collectors for urban transport

The Santander City Council has formalized the appointment of eight Driver-Collector positions for the Municipal Urban Transport Service, following the successful completion of the open competitive selection process. The decision, adopted by resolution on August 21, 2026, by the Department of Development, Urban Planning, Sustainable Mobility, and Housing, is published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria number 166, dated August 28, 2026, with reference CVE-2026-6765.

The call for these positions was published in the BOC number 31, dated February 16, 2026, within the framework of the specific replacement rate for partial retirement. The process was conducted via open competition under the supervision of the Qualifying Board, and the appointments are made in favor of the candidates who passed all the exercises, respecting the regulatory norms and the bases of the call.

The eight appointees

The employment contracts are formalized with a two-month probationary period. The selected candidates, along with their total scores, are:

Reserve job pool

In accordance with Base 11 of the call, a reserve list is published featuring the candidates who passed all exercises, ordered by score, to cover possible waivers by the nominees prior to appointment and to ensure the filling of the positions. It consists of 23 people, led by Diego Lago Couso (29.52 points), followed by Valentín Pedro García Román (29.36) and Enrique Arroyo Clemente (28.86).

Relevance for the service

The reinforcement of the urban transport staff responds to the need to cover partial retirements and guarantee the continuity of the city’s bus service. The creation of the job pool will allow for the streamlining of future incorporations without the need to open a new selection process.

The resolution, signed on August 24, 2026, by the delegated councilor for Development, Urban Planning, Sustainable Mobility, and Housing, Agustín Navarro Morante, represents a significant step for both municipal public employment and the users of Santander’s urban transport, who will see the service’s driver staffing reinforced.
