Sant Jordi eliminates the municipal toy library and two staff positions

The Plenary of the Sant Jordi City Council, in an urgent extraordinary session held on August 20, 2026, has agreed to suppress the Municipal Toy Library Service, effective from September 1, 2026, coinciding with the start of the 2026/2027 academic year. The decision, which ceases the provision of the service by the council, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Castellón, number 101, dated August 22, 2026, under reference 03771-2026-U.

As a consequence of the suppression, the Plenary has also approved the modification of the City Council’s personnel staff for the 2026 fiscal year, through the elimination of the positions assigned to the service. The measure is adopted in accordance with current regulations regarding local government and the organization of human resources in Public Administrations.

Suppression of labor personnel positions

The modification of the staff consists of the suppression of two temporary labor personnel positions, both part-time:

• Toy Library Educator: 1 position, part-time.
• Toy Library Monitor: 1 position, part-time.

The elimination of these positions directly affects local employment and the municipality’s capacity to provide work-life balance services to families with minors.

File and appeals process

The agreement is processed through file 659/2026, which, together with the mandatory documentation, remains open to the public for a period of fifteen business days, counting from the day following the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the Province. During this period, claims and allegations may be submitted in accordance with the provisions of Article 126.3 of Royal Legislative Decree 781/1986, of April 18.

If no allegations or claims are submitted after said period, the agreement will be considered definitively approved. The announcement was signed in Sant Jordi on August 20, 2026, by the mayor, Iván Sánchez Cifre.

Impact on families

The suppression of the toy library service, which ceases to be provided from the start of the school year, represents a significant change for families in Sant Jordi/San Jorge with minors, who will lose a municipal resource for work-life balance and educational leisure. Furthermore, the measure reduces the municipal staff by two temporary jobs, within a context of reorganization of the council’s services and human resources.
