Sanidade sets tuition for the Diploma in Public Health at 800 euros

The Department of Health has set the tuition fee for the “Diploma in Public Health” course, taught through the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge Management, at 800 euros. The decision is detailed in the Order of September 11, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) number 183, Friday, September 25, 2026, in section III. The regulation, signed by the Minister of Health Antonio Gómez Caamaño, establishes a private price under Law 6/2003, of December 9, on taxes, prices, and regulatory levies of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Article 50 of that law defines private prices as the consideration for services provided under private law when the private sector is also involved and the request is voluntary; Article 51 attributes their determination and publication in the DOG to the departments.

A fee for a high-demand course

Although the training activities of the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge Management are generally free, the order justifies the implementation of registration fees in this specific case for three reasons: the high demand for the course, its high level of specialization, and its high financial cost. The stated objective is to help support the expenses of the training activity.

The course is convened by the General Directorate of Public Health through the Galician School of Public Health and the aforementioned agency, and is accredited by the National School of Health. Its purpose is for health professionals to delve into the various disciplines of the Public Health area and become familiar with the necessary instruments for the interpretation, control, and evaluation of health problems.

800 euros VAT exempt and payment upon delivery

The text is organized into three articles and one final provision:

• Article 1. Object: establishment of a private price for the completion of the “Diploma in Public Health” course.
• Article 2. Scope of application: primarily aimed at professionals with an interest in public health who provide services in the Galician Public Health System or who intend to access it.
• Article 3. Private price procedure: sets the tuition amount at €800.00 (eight hundred euros), payable in advance of the course, within the timeframe and under the conditions established in each call.
• Sole final provision. Entry into force: the order enters into force twenty (20) days after its complete publication in the DOG.

The regulation specifies that the Galician Agency for Health Knowledge Management is a public law entity and that, pursuant to article 20.1.9 of Law 37/1992, of December 28, on value added tax, all its professional training and retraining activities are exempt from VAT. The payment of the tuition fee must be made following one of the procedures for the payment of fees and prices accepted, at the time of payment, by the Virtual Tax Office of the Tax Agency of Galicia (Atriga).

The measure directly affects healthcare personnel who wish to train in this program: the tuition fee of 800 euros will be payable in advance and the specific terms regarding deadlines will be established in each call. The order responds to the proposal formulated by the agency itself and follows the habitual practice of setting private prices for voluntary training activities.

With the publication in the DOG, the Ministry of Health closes the economic framework of a reference course for qualification in public health within the Galician health system. From the date of entry into force, interested professionals must have the tuition amount before starting the training, although the final cost remains exempt from VAT.
