Health Department allocates 355,000 euros to six entities in third-quarter grants
Por FactBox Admin

The Regional Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has made public the list of nominated grants awarded in the third quarter of 2026, for a total amount of 355,000 euros, in favor of six entities within the socio-sanitary field of the islands. The announcement, signed on October 15 by the Minister Esther María Monzón Monzón, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (Boletín Oficial de Canarias) no. 221, corresponding to Thursday, November 5, 2026, with announcement number 3817 and official reference BOC-A-2026-221-3817.
The publication is carried out in compliance with article 31.c) of Law 12/2014, of December 26, on transparency and access to public information, which mandates the publication of nominated grants. The aid is nominally provided for in Law 9/2025, of December 23, on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2026, and its processing corresponds to the General Technical Secretariat of the department, according to the text of the announcement.
The six grants are charged to the budget application 14.02.311A.480.02, within program 311A, and each is associated with a distinct project code. These are, therefore, direct award grants and not competitive bids: their amount and recipient are already listed in the budget law, and what is now being published is the effective execution of the expenditure for the quarter. The amount is divided between five non-profit associations, totaling 315,000 euros, and one foundation in the oncology sector, with 40,000 euros.
Breakdown of beneficiaries and amounts
The annex of the announcement details the recipient, objective, amount, and budget application of each grant:
- Association for the Liberation from Anorexia and Bulimia in Tenerife, ALABENTE: 150,000 euros for the project “Professional team for Alabente day center” (code LA 144G0549).
- Acquired Brain Injury Association-Tenerife, ADACEA-TFE: 55,000 euros for “Care for people affected by an acquired brain injury, family members and/or caregivers” (code LA 144G0862).
- Tenerife Multiple Sclerosis Association (ATEM): 50,000 euros for the project “Multidisciplinary Care 2026” (code LA 144G1450).
- Association for the Fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) – Teidela: 50,000 euros for “Access itinerary to resources for people with ALS in the Canary Islands” (code LA 144G1466).
- Canarian Lung Cancer Foundation: 40,000 euros to “Strengthen the scope of the smoking prevention strategy and support for patients diagnosed with lung cancer in the Canary Islands” (code LA 140G0094).
- Association for the Promotion of Equestrian Therapies in the Canary Islands (AFTEC): 10,000 euros for the project “On horseback with my class” (code LA 144G0864).
Care for chronic and neurodegenerative diseases
The destination of the funds confirms the profile of the beneficiary entities: patient and family associations dedicated to chronic, degenerative, and highly complex diseases, with activity in Tenerife and projects of regional scope. The largest allocation, 150,000 euros, corresponds to the ALABENTE day center for eating disorders, an endowment that triples that of any of the other lines.
The remaining grants finance multidisciplinary care and support programs: multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), acquired brain injury, smoking prevention, and equestrian therapies aimed at minors. In several cases, the subsidized object is an access itinerary to resources, which links the aid to the guidance of patients and families within the health and social services system.
Quarterly Advertising and Expenditure Control
The Ministry of Health disseminates this list on a quarterly basis, meaning that each call is known after the expenditure has been executed and not before. All grants share the same budget application, which allows for the comparison of the annual volume committed to the sector through successive quarterly announcements. The document was signed in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on October 15, 2026, three weeks before its appearance in the bulletin.
The published information allows entities in the sector to verify the exact amount assigned to each project and the associated budget code, data that are usually required in the justification of the grant and in the economic reports. The announcement does not detail justification deadlines or payment conditions, which are referred to the general regulations on grants and the agreements or award resolutions of each aid.
The interest of the publication is twofold for the Canarian associative fabric: it confirms the effective financing of the third quarter and provides public record of which programs the Ministry supports using the regional budgets. For entities working with chronic and neurodegenerative diseases, the continuity of these nominated lines is the primary route of stable financing for their care activities.
