Canarian healthcare increases public health prices by 1%

The Canarian Health Service has updated the public price amounts for healthcare benefits with a general increase of 1%, according to the Resolution of August 14, 2026, issued by its Director and published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 178, dated September 4, 2026. The measure updates Annex I of Decree 81/2009, of June 16, which sets the prices for health services provided in centers dependent on the organization, and renews the prices of the assistance agreement for traffic accidents for the 2026-2029 period.
The update is based on article 68 of Law 9/2025, of December 23, on the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for 2026, which provides that regional prices be increased by 1 percent. The proposal originated from the Director General of Economic Resources of the Canarian Health Service on March 25, 2026, and is processed in accordance with articles 218 and 224 of Legislative Decree 1/1994, of July 29, the consolidated text on taxes and public prices of the Canary Islands.
A general increase of 1%
The resolution applies a general increase of 1% to all amounts in Annex I of Decree 81/2009, which lists the common public prices for healthcare benefits. Among the updated rates are:
- Hospital stay per day: €732.32
- Emergency: €249.11
- First consultation: €150.07
- ICU stay: €2,751.46
- Kidney transplant: €34,597.89
- Liver transplant: €37,274.61
- Hemodialysis session: €409.38
- Magnetic resonance imaging (simple study): €439.71
Renewal of the traffic accident agreement
Annex II of the decree contains the prices negotiated through successive agreements between the Canarian Health Service, the Spanish Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Entities (UNESPA), and the Insurance Compensation Consortium. On this occasion, the prices of the Agreement for public healthcare assistance derived from traffic accidents are updated for the 2026-2029 period, while the Emergency Agreement remains unchanged.
Entry into force
The resolution takes effect from the day of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands. However, the prices in Annex II will be applicable from January 1, 2026, in accordance with the stipulations of the signed agreement. The resolution is signed by the Director of the Canarian Health Service, Adasat Goya González, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The increase affects patients, insurance companies, and users of the Canarian public health system who pay these prices for non-covered benefits or for services billed to third parties. The 1% increase, aligned with the regional budget update, maintains the annual review of rates that also serve as a reference for billing insurance companies under assistance agreements for traffic accidents.
