Sanidad adjudica 170.000 dosis de vacuna contra el virus respiratorio sincitial

The Regional Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid has formalized the supply contract for 170,000 doses of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine for adults, charged to the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years. The award, resolved on September 16, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (B.O.C.M.) no. 251, dated October 21, 2026, through a resolution of the Technical General Secretariat signed by Francisco Lobo Montalbán. The total amount of the contract amounts to 18,546,320 euros, VAT included.

The resolution, dated October 9, 2026, orders the publication of the formalization announcement in the “contractor profile” of the Community of Madrid and in the official journals, in accordance with article 154.1 of Law 9/2017, of November 8, on Public Sector Contracts. The file number is 16/2026 (A/SUM-021650/2026) and the contracting authority is the Regional Ministry of Health itself, with NIF S7800001E and headquarters at calle Aduana, number 29, Madrid.

The objective is the “active immunization of adults against lower respiratory tract disease caused by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)”, with CPV code 33651600-4 (Vaccines) and delivery location in the Community of Madrid (ES30). This is a purchase without division into lots and processed through an open procedure with a plurality of criteria.

Three target groups for two campaigns

The vaccination is aimed at the population immunization in the Community of Madrid of three groups, according to the decisions adopted by the Public Health Commission and by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Community of Madrid:

  • People aged 80 and over.
  • People institutionalized in nursing homes and centers for people with disabilities, aged 60 and over.
  • People with very high-risk conditions.

As these are supplies contemplated in article 16.3.a) of the Public Sector Contracts Law, the proposed quantities are estimated and their delivery is subject to the needs of the General Directorate of Public Health. The contract expressly provides for the possibility of subcontracting to third parties, according to section 19 of the characteristics table of the specific administrative clauses specifications, and is not linked to European Union funds.

Two electronic bids and a single awardee

The procedure received two bids, both submitted electronically, none of them from small and medium-sized enterprises nor from another Member State or a third country. The award criteria were divided between price, with up to 60 points, and qualitative criteria evaluable through formulas, with up to 40 points.

The contract was awarded to GlaxoSmithKline, S. A., with NIF A28228526 and registered office at calle Severo Ochoa, number 2, 28760 Tres Cantos (Madrid). The published economic breakdown is as follows:

  • Taxable base: 17,833,000.00 euros.
  • VAT (4%): 713,320.00 euros.
  • Total: 18,546,320.00 euros.
  • Unit price excluding VAT: confidential.

Background in the Official Journal of the European Union

The processing dates back to the spring of 2026 and was staggered in the Official Journal of the European Union, with the following previous publications:

  • Prior information notice number 340749-2026, dated May 19, 2026.

  • Notice of extension of the tender deadline number 543640-2026, dated August 5, 2026.

The award notice was sent on October 9, 2026. A special procurement appeal may be filed against the act of formalization before the Procurement Tribunal of the Community of Madrid under the cases set out in Article 50.2 of the Public Sector Contracts Law, without prejudice to any other applicable remedy.

The formalization clears the supply for the next immunization campaign against RSV, a virus that each winter accounts for a large part of hospitalizations due to respiratory infections in elderly people. With 170,000 doses guaranteed for 2026 and 2027, the Community of Madrid ensures coverage for the three risk groups defined by public health and ties the distribution schedule to the needs established by the Directorate General of Public Health.
