San Andrés del Rey initially approves its municipal heraldic shield

The City Council of San Andrés del Rey has initially approved the adoption file for its Heraldic Coat of Arms, along with the corresponding Justifying Historical Report, in an extraordinary session of the Plenary held on August 12, 2026. The agreement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara, number 160, dated Friday, August 21, 2026, and opens a public information period of twenty business days before the file is sent to the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha for final approval.

The processing is based on Article 22.2.b) of Law 7/1985, of April 2, Regulating the Bases of the Local Regime, and Article 187 of the Regulations on the Organization, Operation, and Legal Regime of Local Entities. The announcement is signed by the mayor, Mr. Arturo Medel Sanz, dated August 19, 2026.

A symbol with historical memory

The adoption of the coat of arms represents an identity milestone for the town, providing it with an official symbol backed by a justifying historical report that documents the chosen heraldic elements. The file may be examined by any interested party during the public exhibition period, both at the municipal offices and through the City Council’s electronic office.

The technical characteristics of the approved symbols are as follows:

• Shield: Spanish shield, party per pale.
• First quarter: argent, a St. Andrew’s cross gules.
• Second quarter: gules, a closed royal crown or over a ring or.
• Timbre: the royal crown of Spain.

Period for allegations and final approval

The file is subject to public information for a period of twenty business days, counted from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Guadalajara. During this period, interested parties may submit any claims or allegations they deem appropriate, which shall be presented to the City Council itself.

If no claims are submitted during the public exhibition period, the adoption agreement will be considered definitively approved. In that case, the City Council will proceed to remit the complete file to the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, the competent body for its final approval.

A step toward official identity

With this procedure, San Andrés del Rey advances in the consolidation of its institutional image, a process that will culminate when the regional administration definitively validates the coat of arms. The approval of the heraldic symbol reinforces the identity and symbolic heritage of the municipality, and its publication in the official gazette guarantees the transparency of the procedure and the participation of the residents in the definition of an emblem that will represent the town.
