Rota yields its auditorium to shows with tickets from 15 to 20 euros

The Local Government Board of the Rota City Council has approved the assignment of the Alcalde Felipe Benítez Theater Auditorium for the holding of flamenco, zarzuela, stand-up comedy, theater, and music shows during the summer of 2026. The agreement, adopted in an ordinary session held on June 29, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cádiz number 168, dated September 1, 2026, under reference No. 274,620.

The assignment is processed under Public Price No. 3.1 for the performance of activities of a cultural or festive nature, approved by the Local Government Board on October 23, 2013, and modified on January 25, 2016. The activities fall under two modalities of section 1.A.3 of the ordinance: free assignment to local non-profit associations (point 2) and assignment to artists and show-promoting entities “at the box office” (point 3), in which the Board sets the ticket price based on the proposal from the promoters.

Six shows and their prices

The agreement details the planned activities, including their dates, times, applicants, and ticket prices:

• Theatricalized Flamenco “Lorca”, by Yvonne Trigo Earle (NIF 53582595-R), on August 17 at 9:00 p.m., at €17.
• Zarzuela “The Barber of Seville”, by the Asociación Teatro Lírico Andaluz (CIF G-92442748), on August 21 at 10:00 p.m., at €17.
• Zarzuela “La Verbena de la Paloma”, by the Asociación Teatro Lírico Andaluz (CIF G-92442748), on August 22 at 10:00 p.m., at €17.
• Comedy Monologue “Alex O’Doherty and You, what are you laughing at?”, by Holajo Producciones S.L (CIF B-44827749), on August 29 at 9:30 p.m., at €16.
• Theater “Quijote Roja”, by the Asociación Cultural El 13 Artes Escénicas (CIF G-72232945), on July 4 at 9:00 p.m., at €15.
• Music Concert by Pedro Pastor, by the Asociación Cultural Intervenciones en Rota (CIF G-72367253), on July 15 at 10:00 p.m., at €20.

Two modalities of assignment

The first four performances fall under the modality of assignment to artists and show-promoting entities “at the box office” (point 3 of section 1.A.3), in which the ticket price is set based on the artists’ fees, protocol expenses, copyrights, and the auditorium’s capacity. The last two are processed as free assignments to local non-profit associations (point 2), reserved for events of a charitable or solidarity nature, in which the Local Government Board decides the ticket price.

In both cases, the purpose of the performances is charitable or for the promotion of local artists, and the applicants are eligible for this modality as they have not utilized it during the 2026 annual period.

Requirements and economic control

Any applicant must sign an agreement with the City Council and adhere to the rules of use and conditions for the assignment of the auditorium, which will be incorporated into the file prior to the date of each show. The file includes the reports from the Culture Technician (June 23 and 24, 2026), the economic study signed on June 23, and the report from the Tax Management Technician and the Treasurer dated June 26, 2026, which considers the setting of the proposed prices to be in accordance with the regulations.

The approval of public prices corresponds to the Plenary of the Corporation, a competence delegated to the Local Government Board by plenary agreement on July 5, 2007. The agreement, digitally signed by the mayor José Javier Ruiz Arana, is made public for the general knowledge of the residents of Rota.

The assignment of the municipal auditorium reinforces Rota’s cultural offering during the summer, combining paid shows with charitable activities by local associations, and represents a boost for both the performing arts programming and the promotion of local artists.
