Reus opens school canteen grants endowed with 120,000 euros

The Reus City Council has announced grants for family reconciliation and to contribute to the payment of school meals for families in the city during the 2026/2027 academic year, a line funded with 120,000 euros. The call is approved by the Decree of September 14, 2026, of the Department of People’s Services and Social Rights and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Tarragona on September 21, 2026, with the reference CVE 2026-08601. The application period opens the day after publication and extends for 15 business days.

The call is governed by the bases approved by the Local Governing Board of the Reus City Council in the session of June 13, 2025, and is resolved under a competitive bidding process. The summary is published in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and the full text can be consulted in the National Subsidy Database with the identifier BDNS 929477. The resolution was signed by the general secretary, by delegation of signature, by the head of service of the Legal Advisory, Josep Alberich Forns.

Budgetary allocation and deadlines

Total amount: 90,000 euros extendable by an additional 30,000 euros, up to 120,000 euros.
2026 Fiscal Year: 75,000 euros extendable by 20,000 euros (95,000 euros).
2027 Fiscal Year: 15,000 euros extendable by 10,000 euros (25,000 euros).
Budgetary application: 30422-23105-489 Welfare-Individual meal grants-Family grants.
Application deadline: 15 business days from the day after publication in the BOPT.
Justification of expenditure: until July 19, 2027.

If the amount of the grants awarded exceeds the available credit, the council will proportionally distribute the allocated amount among the beneficiaries, without prejudice to extending the budgetary allocation.

Requirements and grant amount

Applicants must reside and be registered in Reus, be enrolled in a center supported by public funds in Catalonia in the second cycle of early childhood education or in compulsory education, use the meal service, and not have free meals. Parents, tutors, or guardians must be active, and the family unit cannot exceed the fixed income thresholds.

First adult: 13,861.50 euros.
Second adult and other adults: 6,930.70 euros.
Per child: 4,158.45 euros.
Maximum threshold: minimum threshold increased by 15%.
Single-parent families: 3,500 euros more (2 members) or 3,000 euros more (3 or more members).

The amount is 5.30 euros per day, with a maximum of 177 school days in early childhood and primary education and 142 days in secondary education. An advance payment of 300 euros is planned at the time of granting, pending justification. The grant is incompatible with individual meal grants from the Generalitat de Catalunya for the same academic year.

Assessment and Submission Commission

The study and assessment commission will be composed of a minimum of three people from the Area of Services for People and Social Rights. The permanent members are Tamara Pérez Merino, Teresa Barceló Alentorn, and Vanessa Villanueva Rodriguez; as substitutes, Carme Mendiola Martín, Misericòrdia Alsina Vallverdú, and Susanna Garcia Rosel.

Applications are submitted electronically via the municipal electronic office or in person at the Citizen Service Office, at plaça Mercadal 1, by appointment via telephone at 977010010. The resolution is notified through publication on the municipal electronic board and notice via SMS or email.

The call for applications arrives at the start of the school year and provides coverage for families in Reus with schooled children who need to balance work and family life. The payment for the school canteen is a recurring expense for households, and the grant alleviates the cost for up to 177 school days with a maximum of 5.30 euros per meal.
