The Provincial Council of Segovia has resolved the call for the XXXVI “Jaime Gil de Biedma” Poetry Prize, proclaiming Víctor Herrero de Miguel as the winner for his work Los planos de un lugar, awarded 12,000 euros. The ruling, adopted via Presidency Decree No. 2026-6095 of August 21, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Segovia number 105, dated September 2, 2026.

The call, approved by the Governing Board in the session of December 9, 2025, and announced in BOP Segovia 156 on December 29, 2025, included two categories: the main prize and the Young Poets Prize, in its second edition, awarded 5,000 euros. A total of 1,181 applicants entered the competition in due time and form.

The selection process

The submitted poetry collections were examined by the Pre-jury, appointed via Presidency Decree 2026-1902 of March 5, 2026, and convened in Segovia on May 25, which selected 16 works to be submitted for evaluation by the Jury. The Jury met on June 9, 2026, and proposed the granting of both awards, after which, in a public act, the sealed envelopes were opened to reveal the authorship of the winning works.

The winners

  • Víctor Herrero de Miguel, winner of the XXXVI “Jaime Gil de Biedma” Poetry Prize for Los planos de un lugar, with an award of 12,000 euros.
  • María Martín Hernández, winner of the Young Poets Prize for Bajo la piel, la sombra, with an award of 5,000 euros.

The payment of the amounts will be made via bank account, charged to budget item 0426 3340 489.06, as stated in the resolution, which was issued upon proposal PR/2026/6148 of August 18, 2026, and favorably audited on August 20. The document, signed in Segovia on August 27, 2026, by the Deputy Secretary Laura Álvarez García, concludes the administrative process and allows for an optional appeal for reversal within one month or a contentious-administrative appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Court of Segovia within two months.

A consolidated competition

The “Jaime Gil de Biedma” Poetry Prize, which reaches its thirty-sixth edition, has established itself as one of the reference literary events in the province, with participation exceeding a thousand aspirants. The joint call with the Young Poets Prize reinforces the Provincial Council’s support for literary creation and the pipeline of new authors, providing a significant stimulus for the cultural sector and for writers in the province of Segovia.
