Industrial Property Registry publishes Pop Mart's CRYBABY trademark

The Industrial Property Registry of Costa Rica has published the registration application for the trademark CRYBABY, submitted by the company Pop Mart (Singapore) Holding PTE. LTD. The announcement appears in La Gaceta No. 169 of Tuesday, September 8, 2026, under file 2026-0006426.

The application, processed by the proxy Anel Michelle Aguilar Sandoval, seeks to register CRYBABY as a trademark for goods and services across twelve international classes. The process is governed by the Law on Trademarks and Other Distinctive Signs No. 7978 and its regulations, and is published so that interested third parties may assert their rights.

A brand for the toy market

CRYBABY is one of the collectible character lines from Pop Mart, a company based in Singapore (6 Battery Road, #22-01, Six Battery Road, 049909). The application was submitted on May 29, 2026, and dated August 21, 2026, covering a catalog ranging from electronics to toys.

The registration is of particular interest to the toy and consumer market, as the brand covers both the manufacture of figures and dolls as well as their retail and wholesale commercialization.

Protected classes and products

The trademark is requested in twelve international classes, with an extensive list of products:

• Class 4: candles, fuels, and industrial wax.
• Class 9: smart glasses, software, electronic devices, and digital files authenticated by NFT.
• Class 14: jewelry, precious metals, and watches.
• Class 16: paper, printed matter, stickers, and stationery materials.
• Class 18: handbags, wallets, backpacks, and leather goods.
• Class 20: furniture, toy boxes, and sculptures.
• Class 21: mugs, tableware, and household utensils.
• Class 24: textiles and home linens.
• Class 25: clothing and footwear.
• Class 26: clothing accessories and costume jewelry.
• Class 27: carpets and floor coverings.
• Class 28: toys, dolls, plushies, and collectible figures.
• Class 35: advertising and retail and wholesale sale of toys.

Opposition period and procedure

Pursuant to Article 85 of Law 7978, interested third parties wishing to defend their rights are summoned to assert them before the Registry within two months following the first publication of the notice. The application was signed by the registrar Rina Ruiz Mata.

According to Article 28 of the same law, when a trademark consists of a set of elements, protection shall not extend to elements of common or necessary use in trade. The sign shall be protected exactly as it appears in the application, in accordance with the provisions of Article 18 of the regulations.

The registration of CRYBABY in Costa Rica is of interest to the toy and consumer market, as it is a brand of collectible characters with international projection. If granted, the protection would cover both the manufacture and commercialization of the products in the country, and would open the door to the local distribution of one of Pop Mart’s most recognized lines.
