Call for the extraordinary general meeting

The “Tierra de Barros” Irrigation Community, based in Almendralejo (Badajoz), has published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz the call for an extraordinary general meeting for the upcoming 16 September 2026. The event, promoted by the president of the community, Isidro Hurtado Álvarez, will be held at the Carolina Coronado Theatre, located at 10 Carolina Coronado Street, Almendralejo, at 6:30 p.m. on first call and, failing that, at 7:00 p.m. on second call.

The call is based on articles 22 and 23 of the irrigation community’s bylaws and responds to the need to inform community members about the progress of the irrigation project that the Junta de Extremadura plans to carry out in the Tierra de Barros region, one of the most significant agricultural areas in the province of Badajoz.

Agenda: irrigation project at the forefront

The agenda for the meeting includes four items, the central one being the presentation of the irrigation project by the Minister of Agriculture and the Director General of the Junta de Extremadura. The speakers will report on:

  • The current status of the Tierra de Barros irrigation project.
  • The expected start date of the works.
  • The planned execution schedule.
  • The economic conditions of the project, with special attention to the financial contribution that beneficiary farmers and community members will have to assume.

Following the intervention of the regional representatives, there will be a question and clarification session so that community members can raise their doubts and observations.

Commitment before the Junta de Extremadura

The third item on the agenda is dedicated to informing the general meeting about the commitment that the Junta de Extremadura requires from the “Tierra de Barros” Irrigation Community in relation to the execution of the project works. In this section, the possible adoption of an agreement is proposed that would authorise the president of the community to subscribe and sign, in the name and on behalf of all community members, the commitment document that the regional administration requires as a prerequisite for the commencement of the works.

This is a decisive step for the irrigation project to advance towards its construction phase, since the signing of the commitment would represent the formal endorsement by the irrigation community of the conditions established by the Junta de Extremadura.

A strategic project for the region

The announcement highlights the importance of the issues to be addressed and requests the attendance of all members of the community. The Tierra de Barros irrigation project represents one of the most significant investments for Extremadura’s agriculture in the coming years, as it will directly affect numerous agricultural holdings in the area and will define the economic conditions that farmers must assume for the modernization and expansion of irrigation areas. The meeting on September 16 will be the first formal opportunity for community members to learn firsthand about the technical and economic details of the initiative.
