Fifteen grants for industrial doctorates in companies and centers

The Department of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training has awarded 15 grants from the Industrial Doctorates program, with a total budget of 2,563,742 euros, to finance doctoral theses developed in collaboration between the universities of the University System of Galicia (SUG) and the business sector. The decision was recorded in the Resolution of August 24, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG no. 166) on September 2, 2026, on page 47640.

The call is framed within the Order of December 19, 2025 (DOG no. 39, of February 27, 2026), which establishes the regulatory bases under a competitive bidding process, with procedure code IN606D. The objective is to promote collaboration between the university system, companies, and innovation and technology centers through industrial and experimental research projects that serve as the basis for doctoral theses and allow for the hiring of research personnel in training.

Distribution of grants

Of the 15 grants awarded, 12 correspond to the business sector and 3 to innovation and technology centers. The selection committee, meeting on June 22, 2026, prepared the report with the priority of the proposed applications and the waiting lists for possible substitutions.

• Companies (12): Fujitsu Research of Europe Limited, Branch in Spain (2 grants), Galaria Empresa Pública de Servizos Sanitarios, S.A., Sortcell Analytica, S.L., Fabrx Artificial Intelligence, S.L., Labaqua, S.A.U., Energio Advance, S.L., Ceo2 Green, S.L., Ventilatio Lab, S.L., Sinergias Sostenibles Resiforest, S.L., Vivoarchitect Ibérica, S.L. and Agricultura4Data, S.L.
• Innovation and technology centers (3): Fundación Centro Tecnolóxico de Telecomunicación de Galicia and Fundación Instituto Tecnolóxico de Galicia (2 grants).

Financing and universities

The Galician Innovation Agency will finance the grants for companies and centers, while the General Secretariat for Universities will finance those corresponding to the SUG universities, for an amount of 600,000 euros, charged to budget application 07.02.561B.744.0 within the framework of the Financing Plan of the University System of Galicia 2022-2026.

• University of Santiago de Compostela (USC): 9 grants.
• University of Vigo (UVigo): 5 grants.
• University of A Coruña (UDC): 1 grant.

The expenditure is distributed between the annual periods 2026 to 2030, with credits adjusted to the legal nature of the beneficiary entities in accordance with Law 16/2010, of December 17.

Conditions and deadlines

The start date of the contracts and, therefore, of the aid, will be September 1, 2026, also for persons already hired. Postponement will only be permitted for exceptional causes duly justified and authorized by the instructing body; the failure to formalize the contract within the deadline will be considered a tacit waiver.

Beneficiary entities must send a written acceptance according to article 18 of the call and present the corresponding justifications. Against the resolution, which exhausts the administrative route, an optional appeal for reversal may be filed within one month or a contentious-administrative appeal within two months. The resolution was signed by Manuel Vila López, technical general secretary of the department, by delegation.

The award consolidates the Industrial Doctorates program as a bridge between the university and the Galician productive fabric, allowing research personnel in training to develop their thesis in companies and innovation centers with projects of strategic interest for Galicia.
