Career path and legal basis
The official is registered in the Open and Permanent Registry of the General Directorate of Civil Service and has been working on an interim basis at the Attorney General’s Office since November 16, 2025.
The agreement invokes the powers of articles 140 subsection 2) and 146 of the Political Constitution, article 28, subsection 2, paragraph b) of the General Law of Public Administration, article 18 of the Organic Law of the Attorney General’s Office, No. 6815 of September 27, 1982, and article 2 of the Civil Service Statute, Law No. 1581 of May 30, 1953.
The signing of the agreement was delegated: President Laura Fernández Delgado delegated to Alexánder Astorga Monge, Director of the Office of the Presidency, and Minister Gabriel Aguilar Vargas delegated to Sandra Rodríguez Chaves, Vice Minister of Strategic Management, pursuant to agreement 040-P of July 14, 2026, published in La Gaceta No. 133, Supplement No. 91 of July 17, 2026. The document was issued at the Presidency of the Republic, in San José, on August 24, 2026.
Impact
The appointment ensures the continuity of the Criminal Law Directorate of the Attorney General’s Office following the death of the position’s holder, and confirms an official with nearly one year of interim service in the institution. The one-year term and the three-month probationary period allow the Administration to evaluate her performance before any eventual permanent appointment.
