Pozoblanco announces the sevillanas and flamenco dress competitions for the fair

The Pozoblanco City Council has announced two competitive grants for the 2026 Fair of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes: the III Sevillanas Dance Contest and the III Flamenco Estampa Contest. Both calls are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Córdoba number 166, dated August 27, 2026, through separate Mayoral resolutions dated August 24, and the deadline for submitting applications is September 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM.

The calls are processed under the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17, and the City Council’s General Ordinance regulating the granting of subsidies, initially approved in Plenary on October 28, 2013, and published in full in BOP number 245, of December 27, 2013. Management is handled by the Department of Tourism, Festivals, and Promotion, with the aim of promoting and disseminating popular dances and costumes during the fair and strengthening the tourist and cultural appeal of the town.

Two contests, two modalities

The III Sevillanas Dance Contest (reference BOP-A-2026-2979, BDNS 926269) is carried out in pairs, of the same or different sex and without residency restrictions, with a total amount of €910.00. The III Flamenco Estampa Contest (reference BOP-A-2026-2980, BDNS 926263) involves individual participation, also open to any residency, with an endowment of €855.00. In both cases, the amount is allocated to budget item 432022608 of the 2026 municipal budget.

Age categories

Participants are divided into three categories based on their year of birth, common to both competitions:

• Children: born from 2014 to 2026.
• Youth: born from 2009 to 2013.
• Adults: born up to 2008.

In the sevillanas contest, if the members of a pair belong to different categories, they will compete in the older category.

Deadline and submission

Applications may be submitted from the day following the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of Córdoba until September 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM, as well as on the day of the contest one hour before its start at the Municipal Tent of the Pozoblanco Fairgrounds. Entering the contest implies acceptance of the rules.

The resolutions are signed by the Mayor-President of the City Council, Santiago Cabello Muñoz, and the full text can be consulted in the National Grants Database. With these two calls, Pozoblanco reinforces the festive program of the Feria de las Mercedes, highlighting Andalusian traditions and offering residents and visitors an opportunity to actively participate in the fair’s cultural events.
