Portomarín hires firefighting personnel with a five-day deadline.
Por FactBox Admin

The Council of Portomarín has just published the call for the selection of temporary staff for the prevention and defence against forest fires. The announcement, signed on 10 August by the mayor, Pablo Rivas Folgueira, appears in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Lugo number 184, of Thursday 13 August 2026, with the official reference R. 2203. Interested persons have only five working days to submit their application, in an urgency justified by the summer campaign.
The call was approved by decree of the Mayor’s Office on 1 July 2026 and is framed within the collaboration agreement signed between the Regional Ministry of Rural Environment and the Council of Portomarín for participation in the prevention and defence against forest fires through the operation of prevention and defence means. The programme is partially co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), which allows the municipality to reinforce its response capacity in a region with a strong forest presence.
Urgent selection in full summer campaign
The hiring is temporary in nature and aims to reinforce the means of prevention and defence against fires at the time of greatest risk of the year. The short submission period —five working days— responds to the need to incorporate the staff before summer ends. On the same page of the bulletin, the council lists, within its temporary labour personnel programmes (reference R. 2202), five posts for fire brigade, pump drivers and brush-cutting tractor drivers, which gives an account of the profile of the positions linked to the fight against fire.
Terms and submission deadline
- The terms of the call are available at the council’s electronic office (portomarin.sedelectronica.gal) and on the municipal website (www.concellodeportomarin.es).
- The application submission deadline is five working days, counted from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Lugo.
- With the announcement published on 13 August, the deadline is expected to close on next 20 August.
Institutional collaboration with European funds
The programme is framed within the line of collaboration between the Xunta de Galicia, through the Regional Ministry of Rural Environment, and the municipalities to maintain means of prevention and defence against forest fires. The participation of the EAFRD in the co-financing of the agreement allows a medium-sized municipality such as Portomarín to have specialised staff without bearing the cost of the summer deployment alone.
The publication of this call has direct relevance both for people seeking temporary employment in rural areas and for the residents of Portomarín, who will see prevention and first response to forest fires reinforced in a high-risk summer. The short submission deadline requires interested parties to act quickly so as not to miss the opportunity.
