Pontevedra extends municipal cleaning and waste collection contracts

The Local Government Board of the Pontevedra City Council ratified, in its extraordinary and urgent session on October 2, 2026, the extraordinary extension of the contract for the cleaning of municipal premises and sports facilities, as well as the extension of the contract for waste collection and street cleaning. The agreements were published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra (BOPPO) on October 7, 2026, no. 193, in a summary of agreements with the reference 2026/ASXGL/000055. The session opened with the ratification of the urgency of the summons itself, confirming the unforeseen nature of the decision.

The summary is published in the Local Administration section, Pontevedra Municipal subsection, under the heading “Other documents, notifications, and public information.” The body adopting the agreements is the Local Government Board, and the gazette is edited by the Provincial Council of Pontevedra. Extraordinary extension of the contract for the cleaning of premises and sports facilities

• Lot 1 of the contract for the cleaning of municipal premises and sports facilities.
• Lot 2 of the same contract.

Extension of the waste collection and street cleaning contract

The third point approves the extension of the public services contract for urban solid waste collection, selective collection at source, waste transport, street cleaning, deratization and disinfection, and cleaning of municipal premises, under file 2026/CONTPRORR/000031. The extension is expressly limited to a part of the contract’s object:

• Urban solid waste collection.
• Selective collection at source.
• Waste transport.
• Street cleaning.
• Deratization and disinfection.
• Cleaning of municipal premises, exclusively regarding the cleaning service for municipal buildings-schools.

Background of municipal contracting

The Pontevedra City Council has other actions related to waste management currently in process. On September 14, 2026, the BOPPO (no. 176) published the classification of the bids submitted and the request to the bidder with the best quality-price ratio for the service contract for the monitoring and control of the integrated management of waste under the municipal competence of the Pontevedra City Council, file 2025/ABS/000015. This file is distinct from the two contracts now extended, but falls within the same scope of municipal waste and cleaning management.

The two extensions guarantee the continuity of cleaning services for municipal premises, sports facilities, schools, and public roads while the City Council resolves the contracting files currently in progress. For the residents, the decision translates into the continuity of basic cleaning and waste collection services without interruption.
