Pontevedra opens the call for applications from the General Directorate of European Funds and Grants

The Local Government Board of the Pontevedra City Council approved in the ordinary session of October 8, 2026, the public call for the provision, through the system of free appointment, of the position of General Director of European Funds and Grants. The agreement, processed under reference 2026/NOMDIRXERAL/000001, was made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra number 198, dated October 14, 2026, within the summary of agreements 2026/ASXGL/000056.

The matter was incorporated into the agenda as an urgent item, following the regulatory declaration of urgency and with the unanimous agreement of the members of the Local Government Board. The proposal is part of the block of direction and coordination of government impulse actions, along with other processing files from the same session.

The call takes place in a context of reorganization of the delegations of competencies of the municipal government. In an agreement published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Pontevedra number 192, dated October 6, 2026 (2026/DELEGXGL/000004), the Local Government Board delegated to councilwoman Anabel Gulías Torreiro competencies of the Government Area of Equality Promotion, Welfare, Health, and Economy. That agreement invokes article 127 of Law 7/1985 regulating the bases of the local regime and article 22 of the Organic Regulation of the government and administration of the Pontevedra City Council, which provide for the delegation of competencies to councilmen and councilwomen and to general directors.

A management position for European funds

The called position is located within the management structure of the Pontevedra City Council and covers two sensitive matters for the municipal coffers: the attraction and management of European funds and the processing of grants. The call is processed through the system of free appointment, a provision procedure distinct from competitive examinations and oppositions.

File 2026/NOMDIRXERAL/000001 is the only reference that the official summary offers regarding the content of the call. The announcement publishes the approval agreement, not the bases nor the deadline for submitting applications, which must appear in the full call.

The framework of municipal grants

The management of grants by the Pontevedra City Council is organized through the Strategic Grant Plan, whose annex I was modified during 2026 by mayoral decree reported to the Local Government Board (2026/PES/000001).

Along the same lines, the Local Government Board has been approving the bases and calls for municipal aid. Among them is the public call for grants to promote sports practice and participation in official competitions in the year 2026 (2026/SUBCC/000008).

• Notification of a judgment dated August 24, 2026, issued in the summary trial derived from urgent proceedings 1224/2026 of the Instruction Section (2026/COMPARECENCIAXURIS/000063).

In the same issue of the bulletin, the Provincial Council of Pontevedra published a presidential resolution that temporarily delegates to deputy María Ramallo Vázquez the competencies regarding European funds previously held by deputy Javier Tourís Romero, who was absent on October 13, 2026.

Impact

The filling of the position of Director General of European Funds and Grants will determine who assumes the leadership of the acquisition of community resources and the municipal aid policy, two relevant sources of financing for the municipality’s investments.
