Pollença launches shopping vouchers to reactivate local commerce

Por FactBox Admin

The Pollença City Council has approved the regulatory bases for a new Bons Pollença campaign, a shopping voucher program funded with 50,000 euros to reactivate local commerce in the municipality. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 110, of September 3, 2026, section III, page 47970, with file number 8801 and reference 927059 of the National Grants Database (BDNS).

The initiative, which is developed under a direct grant regime due to public, economic, and social interest, aims to promote the boost of small and medium-sized enterprises within the municipal district. According to the official text, the campaign was already carried out in 2024 and 2025 with a very positive reception from the citizens and the business and commercial sector, and is now being resumed to incentivize purchases during the months of lower tourist activity.

Object and funding

The object of the bases is to regulate the procedure and conditions for granting subsidies to the participating commercial establishments, which will issue shopping vouchers in favor of residents. The credit for this purpose is allocated in the General Budget of the Pollença City Council for the 2026 fiscal year, under budget application 431/48939, for an amount of 50,000 euros.

The measure is based on the powers attributed in article 29.2.t) of Law 20/2006, of December 15, municipal and local regime of the Balearic Islands, and is governed by Law 38/2003, of November 17, general law on subsidies.

Who can benefit

The campaign distinguishes between direct and indirect beneficiaries:

  • Direct: self-employed workers, shops, small businesses, and establishments, regardless of their legal form, with premises open to the public in Pollença and falling under the headings of annex 3 of the bases.
  • Indirect: natural persons over 16 years of age, registered as residents in the municipality, who access the vouchers at participating establishments.

To participate, establishments must meet, among other requirements, be up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, possess an opening and operating license, and have had commercial activity open to the public in any of the months between November 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026. A small business is considered to be one with a maximum staff of 20 employees and an annual turnover of less than 1,000,000 euros.

How the vouchers work

The vouchers will be distributed equally among all participating establishments, so that all will have the same number of vouchers. Each person may obtain a maximum of two vouchers of 15 euros each, and to use them, they must make a minimum purchase of 30 euros per voucher at the chosen establishment.

  • Vouchers must be consumed during the period indicated in the call for applications.
  • At the time of exchange, the buyer must show their ID (DNI) to the merchant.
  • All issuance, exchange, and compensation operations will be managed through a specific technological platform.

Processing and Resolution

The procedure is initiated ex officio and its approval corresponds to the City Council Plenary, while the instruction falls to the delegated department of Commerce. A Technical Commission will examine compliance with the requirements and evaluate the applications, and the final resolution corresponds to the Local Government Board, following auditing by the Municipal Comptroller. Payment will be made in a single installment via bank transfer to each adhering entity, once the expense has been justified by means of an invoice and purchase vouchers.

Applications shall be submitted within the deadline set by the call, counted from the day after its publication in the BOIB, and legal entities must do so electronically.

The new edition of Bons Pollença represents a direct boost for the small establishments of the municipality and a saving for the residents, at a time of the year when local commerce needs the most support. With a budget of 50,000 euros and an operation designed to reach all neighborhoods, the campaign reinforces the local commercial fabric and consolidates a measure that has already demonstrated positive results in previous editions.
